Windows DVD Problem

1. A friend recently upgraded to Windows 8 and is having issues with his DVD drive not working. 2. When checking Device Manager, the drive was initially not displayed but then showed up with error code 45 after enabling viewing of hidden devices. 3. The response recommends trying to remove and reconnect the device, running the hardware troubleshooter, updating the driver, or reinstalling the latest driver from the manufacturer in compatibility mode if no Windows 8 driver is available.
