Identify topics-must be an organized body of knowledge Specify learning objectivesmust decide what you want students to understand about the topic Structure content-all forms of content must be well organized because the organized body of knowledge will be broad and have a lot of information Prepare lesson introductionscreate advance organizers which are written or verbal statements that link new information to existing info
Phase 1: Review and introductionteacher reviews previous topics and presents the advance organizer for the class, can also provide question which will further the focus of the lesson Phase 2: Presentation-teacher presents student with information that makes up part of an organized body of knowledge Phase 3: Comprehension monitoringteacher asks questions to assess the understand the information Phase 4: Integration-teacher presents students with additional information and asks questions to integrate the new material Closure-teacher guides the students as they review and summarize the information
Students should be assessed on their understanding of the relationships among the topic compared to just the information taught Should involve both the specific topics and the relationships among them
To ensure students stay tuned in teachers must make sure they have the students actively involved They can do this by doing periods of group work in the whole class discussion If students stay interested they will be more motivated because their roles will not be passive
This is very important to know and understand as a teacher to better educate the students about relationships between topics and not just the content.
