Dear Mr. Foust,: Clark - Chen@berkeley - Edu

The letter asks the writer Mr. Foust three questions about his book of poems "To Anacreon in Heaven and Other Poems": 1) If the experiences in the poems are based on his own life experiences, 2) How the work reflects on his identity as a writer and poet, and 3) Why he decided to write this book of poems. The writer of the letter, Clark Chen, requests that Mr. Foust address these questions and email his responses back.

Dear Mr.

Foust,

I know, to some degree of certainty from reading your works, that you believe that a poem is an experience as opposed to a work that can be defined to have a particular meaning or "be about" something. Is the experience that is "To Anacreon in Heaven and Other Poems" based on your own life experiences? How does this work reflect on your identity as a writer and poet? Why did you decide to write this book? I would very much appreciate it if you could address these questions and email me back at [email protected] at your leisure.

Best, Clark Chen
