Writing Standards: Text Types and Purposes, Literacy 1.9-10.1 Write arguments to support claims in an analysis of substantive topics or texts using valid reasoning and relevant and sufficient evidence.

C Students learned about numerous marketing strategies, various ways corporations target teens, the impact of advertising on teen development and strategies to help teens deal with media. Resources/Materials News Articles about multiple problems modern marketing strategies cause for teens and news articles about ways to address these problems. Ads from magazines and the internet.

Assessment (How will you monitor progress and know students have successfully met outcomes?) Daily: Do Now checks for understanding of the previous days lesson. Written assignments and quizzes check for understanding of daily lessons. This Week: Students will analyze ads to determine the kind of marketing strategies used to target their audience. They will write down the specific strategy used, and cite evidence from the article to show that their analysis is correct. Students will analyze a new marketing strategy, evaluate it and determine if it should be introduced into the U.S. market. They will show their ideas by writing a paragraph that requires them to elaborate on information they include in the article. Students will take a test on advertising strategies, problems ads cause for teens and possible solutions to these problems.

Time allotted MONDAY Learning TargetStudents will show their ability to analyze which type of marketing strategy is being used in an ad and cite evidence from the ad to prove it, by looking at various ads and writing down their ideas. Students will also show their ability to evaluate the effectiveness of an ad on a target population by writing about whether or not the ad seems effective and giving reasons to support their ideas.
