Thompson 1 Sandra Rice Professional Biography Draft: There are few women in the world that have been

successful enough to intimidate another. Sandra Rice and her success with the Emma Bowen Foundation are a part of this select few. In high school, Rice was a member of her schools basketball team. Through this experience she was taught the importance of discipline. Punctuality and Professionalism are what Rice emphasizes to be important to any successful career. With her implementation of these principles, industry experience, invaluable network, and great passion for the Foundation mission, Rice has opened up a world of opportunities to students across the nation. Rice earned a Bachelors Degree in Journalism, Radio and Television from San Jose State University in California and Masters Degree in Media Studies from The New School in New York City. During her college years, Rice earned a scholarship from KCRA-TV (NBC affiliate) in Sacramento and interned there throughout her college summers and winter breaks. As Senior Vice President, she recruits minority high school and college students to work in multi-summer paid internships at media companies (including NBC, CBS, ABC, FOX, ESPN, HBO and Warner Bros) throughout the United States. Rice is known for her legendary gift of identifying the best and the brightest students. With her expertise, nearly 500 graduates have successfully transitioned to full-time positions in the industry after college. Outside of working for Emma Bowen, Rice acted as National President of the Alliance for Women in Media (formerly the American Women in Radio & Television). She has received many awards. These include the 2005 Minority in Media Telecommunications Councils Everett C. Parker Award, the 2002 American Women in Radio and Television Achievement Award and the Tri-State Diversity Councils 2012 Multicultural Leadership Award just to name a few. Rice enjoys reading and spending quality time with her two kids. She taught them to try everything because you never know what may come from it. Both are following in her footsteps by pursuing careers in the media industry. It brings her joy to be able to say that both of her kids participated in the foundation that she helped strengthen. Rice has been responsible for the foundations restructure, making it more responsive to the servicing of its programs. Dennis Swanson, President of Station Operations for Fox Television and the Foundations Chairman said, Sandra has worked tirelessly for the past fifteen years to help build the Emma Bowen Foundation into the success that it enjoys at present.
