Called Shock Spectrum and Is Also Referred To As Response Spectrum

A shock is a sudden force or acceleration applied to a system that is short compared to the system's natural period, causing transient response. A shock spectrum plots the maximum response of a system as a function of its natural frequency or period when subjected to a specified forcing function. It shows the peak response of all possible single degree of freedom systems for an arbitrary force over time.

Shock Spectrum A shock is a disturbance of force, displacement, velocity, or acceleration suddenly applied to the system whose duration is short

compared to the natural period of the system and results in transient response. The plot of maximum response as a function of natural frequency or natural period of the system is called shock spectrum and is also referred to as response spectrum. The shock spectrum can also be viewed as a plot of the maximum response for all possible single degree of freedom system for a specified forcing function. For example the peak response of an un-damped SDOF system subjected to arbitrary F(t) can be written as we know

1 x(t ) max = F ( ) sin n (t )d mn o

max

x(t ) = F () g (t )d
o
