Power Line Communication: EE 400 Term Project

Power line communication is a system that carries data on existing power lines by impressing a modulated carrier signal onto the wiring. It allows different devices to transmit data to one another over power lines. Several control networks operate over power line communication, including CEBUS, LonWorks, LnCP, and HNCP. CEBUS provides LAN communication of control information between devices, LonWorks uses a common protocol for communication between nodes over different media, LnCP uses a peer-to-peer model and is multi-master, and HNCP provides standard messaging for electric devices connected via low-bandwidth power line communication.

What is power line communication?


It is a system for carrying data on a conductor. It uses the existing power lines to transmit data from one device to another. This makes power line communication one of the best means for networking.
