The Big Picture:

The Law of Types & Shadows

The entire body of Scripture works on the principle of Types and Shadows.

Too often, we take a symbol literally, and miss the understanding that God wants to give us.

As an example, consider what Paul says in Hebrews.

For unto us was the gospel preached, as well as unto them: but the word preached did not profit them, not being mixed with faith in them that heard it. For we which have believed do enter into rest, Heb 4:2-3

This passage tells us quite plainly that the good news of the gospel was given to ancient Israel, just as it has been given to us. We can safely say that there is no difference between them and us, as far as the grace of God is concerned. For truly, God is no respecter of persons.

But even more importantly, this passage also tells us that the history of ancient Israel is now an object lesson for us to learn from, even as their mistake could easily become ours.

The relationship of types and shadows is further explained in Heb.10

For the law having a shadow of good things to come, and not the very image of the things, can never with those sacrifices which they offered year by year continually make the comers thereunto perfect. Heb Heb 10:10 10:10

Hebrews says that the sacrifices of the Old Testament were never intended to bring the believers into a perfect relationship with God.

The system of sacrifices was the shadow, but the good things to come would be the Messiah, and everything that would come after His sacrifice.

In order to understand the Sanctuary, one must understand the relationship that exists between the law and the actual Revelation of Jesus Christ.

The Law was Jesus Christ, revealed in a symbolic and ritualistic form. We might say, the law was a prophecy of things to come.

This means that the Mosaic Law which God gave to Israel was both:

AN OBJECT LESSON A PROPHETIC VISION

An object lesson is simply a teaching tool that one might use to illustrate a point.
And there are many object lessons that can be found in the scriptures. However

The Tabernacle in the Wilderness is perhaps the greatest single object lesson in the scriptures.

WHY?

Because the Tabernacle reveals:

A. Who the Messiah is

B. What His mission would involve

C. What the entire plan of His redemption involves

In short, the entire Revelation of Jesus Christ

The Sanctuary is the Old Testament Revelation of Jesus Christ.

Jesus therefore refers to Himself in Rev.1 as the Alpha. Alpha is the first letter of the Greek alpha-bet.

I am Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the ending, saith the Lord, which is, and which was, and which is to come, the Almighty. Rev 1:8

Notice that Jesus explains Himself as

the first and the last.

So what does

&

have to do with?

The Alpha and the Omega represents the Biblical principle of spiritual transcendence.
PHYSICAL EARTHLY Are used to reveal
SPIRITUAL HEAVENLY

This ismankind, why God refers totake Hisus In saving God must way as to a path. from the familiar the unfamiliar.

The word path necessarily implies the idea of a journey, or a kind of transition.

In every possible way, God made the point that the sanctuary represents this principle of transcendence.

Even in its construction, the building was made to be moved from place to place.

UNDERSTANDING THIS PRINCIPLE IS THE ALL IMPORTANT ISSUE!

ESPECIALLY IN THESE LAST DAYS!

Why does Jesus refer to Himself as the first and the last? What does He mean by the Alpha and the Omega?

And why does He refer to Himself in 3 tenses?

The middle tense is the all-important issue! It is the key that unlocks the mystery of what God wants to reveal to His people.

This middle tense that Christ speaks of is the present tense for those that are in Christ before the time of the end.

A time that is soon to end, as the time of the end begins.

This was the test that ancient Israel faced.

As Gods chosen nation, they did not pass their test.

To ignore or otherwise fail Butunderstand in order to do this, we must walk to this lesson the entire path, one step at a time. is to miss the mark of That is the bottom line issue. Gods high calling.

To pass from Alpha to Omega is to successfully follow the path of Gods Word, from beginning to end.

Many Christians believe that the Old Testament system of rituals and sacrifices has no significance or relevance to them.
Many more Christians say they believe in the whole Bible, but they fail to study the more obscure parts of the O.T. that seem unimportant, or difficult to understand.

Either way, the enemy of our souls can deter us from the path that we must follow.
And thine ears shall hear a word behind thee, saying, This is the way, walk ye in it, when ye turn to the right hand, and when ye turn to the left.
Isa 30:21

The work of UNDERSTANDING is what the Bible calls THE PATH.

The Path to the Throne of God

As we follow the Path of Gods Word, the Sanctuary reveals the way from earth to heaven.

5 But he was wounded for our transgressions, he was bruised for our iniquities: the chastisement of our peace was upon him; and with his stripes we are healed. Isa 53:3-5

This is the great lesson that Paul refers to in Hebrews when He says:

Let us therefore fear, lest a promise being left us of entering into his rest, any of you should seem to come short of it.

Understanding

the Pillars & the Curtain

Revelation explains the true meaning and significance of the outer pillar.

The Outer Pillar

A pillar is a column of shittim wood. Ex.38:9 Wood is the key to understanding Wisdom, because all wood comes from a tree.
Many of the most profound truths taught in scripture concern the object lesson of the tree. In fact, the tree is such an important symbol that

God repeatedly likens Himself to a tree!

These two objects, the WOOD (Tree) and the PILLAR, are very important in scripture.

Consider the fact that

The symbol of a tree takes us from the beginning of the fall, to the end of the controversy!
For Adam Jesus is: The the tree of life in the midst of the garden. Gen 2:9
To Abraham Jesus is: A ram caught in the thicket.

Ex.28 explains the connection between Aaron the high priest and the white head of the pillar. As High Priest, Aaron was a type of Christ, our great High Priest, who also has a white head.

Prov.3:18 says: Wisdom is a tree of life to them that lay hold upon her. This explains the meaning and significance of the candlestick

The Menorah is simply a child-like representation of a tree on fire. We call it The Burning Bush.

The Burning Bush is a representation of the trial by fire that Jesus experienced when He hung on the Tree.

No wonder the Bible likens Jesus, as Wisdom, to a tree. The tree is a symbol that helps explain the crucified Lamb of God.

The Wisdom of God as a Tree

The word Wisdom means APPLIED KNOWLEDGE. If Christ refers to Himself as Wisdom, then the tree is the perfect symbol of His divinity as it was veiled in humanity.

The Wisdom of God as a Tree

Psa. 1 likens every righteous man to a tree. The symbol of a tree therefore represents the image of the God-Man.

Understanding the Brass Socket

Revelation does the same, stating that Concerning brass the scripture says: his feet (were) as if they burned in a furnace bare Rev 1:15 And Zillah, she also Tubalcain, an instructor of every artificer in brass and iron. Gen 4:22

In the scriptures, is consistently The furnace brass in Revelation is a associated fire.in Gen 4:22. 4:22 reference to the with furnace Gen.

So then, if brass represents fire, why are Christs feet like brass?

Isaiah says that the feet of Jesus would bring good news.
How beautiful upon the mountains are the feet of him that bringeth good tidings, that publisheth peace; that bringeth good tidings of good, that publisheth salvation; that saith unto Zion, Thy God reigneth! Isa 52:7

Many years later, Jesus did publish the good news when He read from Isaiah: The Spirit of the Lord GOD is upon me; because the LORD hath anointed me to preach good tidings unto the meek; he hath sent me to bind up the brokenhearted, to proclaim liberty to the captives, and the opening of the prison to them that are bound; Isa 61:1

But His feet and His face were set steadfastly towards Jerusalem.

And it came to pass, when the time was come that he should be received up, he stedfastly set his face to go to Jerusalem, Luke 9:51

The feet of brass represent Christs determined attitude, and His final destination, which was the furnace of affliction.

The Path of Affliction

Understanding

The White Linen of the Outer Court

There are two things that we need to understand about linen fabric.

The linen of the Tabernacle represents both, ones character and ones experience.

God chose to use linen for the Tabernacle, rather than wool.

You would think that God would use a lambs wool for the curtain.

Furthermore, wool was easy to produce, there was plenty of it, and its naturally white, whereas raw linen is not.

So why did God insist on using linen and not wool to make the Outer Curtain of the Sanctuary?

Linen fabric in the scriptures is consistently associated with a measure of status and honor. It is considered to be the finest and most expensive of fabrics.

The Bible says:

And Pharaoh took off his ring from his hand, and put it upon Josephs hand, and arrayed him in vestures of fine linen, and put a gold chain about his neck. Gen. 41:42

In this same sense, God commanded that His priesthood must also be clothed in fine linen.

And these are the garments which they shall make; a breastplate, and an ephod, and a robe, and a broidered coat, a mitre, and a girdle: and they shall make holy garments for Aaron thy brother, and his sons, that he may minister unto me in the priest's office. And they shall take gold, and blue, and purple, and scarlet, and fine linen. Ex. 28:2-5

Furthermore, not just the High Priest, but ALL the priests of the Tabernacle were required to wear linen in the service of the sanctuary.

In speaking to Israel, God said to Ezekiel:

And it shall come to pass, that when they enter in at the gates of the inner court, they shall be clothed with linen garments; and no wool shall come upon them, whiles they minister in the gates of the inner court, and within.

They shall have linen bonnets upon their heads, and shall have linen breeches upon their loins; they shall not gird themselves with any thing that causeth sweat. Eze 44:17, 18

Clearly then, the option to wear wool in the service of God and His Sanctuary was totally out of the question.

In scripture, a garment or covering represents a persons character. In this sense, a linen fabric says much about the character and experience of Gods people.

Linen as a symbol of character and experience.

Linen thread required more work to produced, compared to wool, precisely because it came from plants and not from animals.

Raw linen is naturally dark. You might even say it looks dirty.

The ancient Egyptians discovered that leaving a linen cloth in the sun for long periods would bleach it, and make it whiter.

In a symbolic sense, the white linen of the tabernacle perfectly represents the character of Gods saints who are made white by being constantly exposed to the Son of Righteousness.

Revelation declares that Christs righteousness will become ours as He finishes the work of redemption in the earth.

7 Let us be glad and rejoice, and give honour to him: for the marriage of the Lamb is come, and his wife hath made herself ready.

And to her was granted that she should for the fine linen is the be arrayed in fine linen, clean and white: righteousness of saints. Rev 19:7,8

The covering of the Outer Court as a single garment of white linen says that as we enter into the courtyard, we enter into the experience of becoming one with Jesus Christ.

And what is the experience of the saints that the white linen fabric represents?

The experience of Gods priesthood.

Ye also, as lively stones, are built up a spiritual house, an holy priesthood, to offer up spiritual sacrifices, acceptable to God by Jesus Christ. 1Pe 2:5

We have seen that the outer pillar establishes a connection between the Tabernacle and the Book of Revelation.

So the question is why does the Lord take such care to make this parallel between the Sanctuary and the book of Revelation?

THE ANSWER IS REALLY QUITE SIMPLE:

THE JUDGMENT

THE BOTTOM LINE OF THE TABERNACLE IS THE SAME BOTTOM LINE OF THE BOOK OF REVELATION!

1. The Front Doorand the Outer Court represents the experience of the Revelation of Jesus Christ.

Therefore, to enter the door into the Outer Court means to partake of that Revelation, which Hebrews calls the New Covenant!.

The Message of

The Altar of Burnt Offering

As we pass through the front door of the courtyard

The first thing we see is the Altar of Burnt Offering

This fact, in and of itself, is a statement about the entire Tabernacle System.

The key word in all of this is Sacrifice. Everything begins at this altar, and sacrifice is the point that God is making.

THE WOOD There are 3 things that we want to understand THE BRASS as we examine the altar of burnt offering:
THE SACRIFICE

LETS BEGIN WITH

THE HEART OF WOOD

The Heart of the Altar

Once again, wood plays an important part in understanding the symbolism of the altar.

We have seen how God used the symbol of a tree to represent the character of Christ

Using wood to make an altar was a radical departure from tradition, as far as altars were concerned.

Typically, wood was always used on an altar. It was never used as an altar.

The altar of the patriarchs was always a representation of Christ on Calvary.

In their ascending order, note

SACRIFICE
WOOD ALTAR

Christ on Calvary WAS that altar.

The Lamb The Cross Golgotha

So, in terms of the message that God was sending to Israel

There is more that we need to see.

A wooden altar covered in brass does indeed represent the crucified Savior.

Because the altar and its sacrifice explain the details and the terms of Gods covenenat.

The Altar of Burnt Offering accepted all manner of sacrifices, BECAUSE it was about Calvary!

An altar made of wood was the first radical change.

The other was the four horns!

We know that the wood of the tree represents the character of Christ.

But what about the horns?

The question is.

Why would an altar need horns?

Concerning the horns, God says:

"You shall make its horns on its four corners; its horns shall be of one piece with it.
Exod 27:2 (NKJ)

God says that the horns are organically connected to the altar. Thus, the horns are VERY IMPORTANT!

The Psalmist declares:

10 All the horns of the wicked also will I cut off; but the horns of the righteous shall be exalted. Ps 75:10

Historically, the symbol of the Little Horn in Daniel is highly misunderstood precisely because it is not considered in its proper context. The Little Horn in Daniels prophecy is also taken from the context of the Sanctuary.

And Hannah prayed, and said, My heart rejoiceth in the LORD, mine horn is exalted in the LORD: my mouth is enlarged over mine enemies; because I rejoice in thy salvation. 1 Sam 2:1

In this passage the horn clearly represents Hannahs MOTIVE for asking. Her enemies scorned her because she was barren, but God honored her request and exalted her HORN.

This explains why God says:

The height of the horns must be the same

as the height of the altar itself.

In the sight of God,

the quality of SACRIFICE and the REASON for sacrificing are both equally important!

The wood of the Altar of Burnt Offering represents the very HEART of the Son of God, Jesus Christ.

Likewise, the horns of the altar represent the character or motivation of His sacrifice.

We might even say, the horns represent the Power or EFFICACY of HIS Sacrifice.

Again, the horn is a vitally important symbol in explaining the altar.

The Horn addresses the issue of motive because it is THE CRITICAL ISSUE that the Judgment is concerned with.

Finally, lets consider

THE SACRIFICE

In the scriptures, the act of sacrifice on an Altar is consistently associated with TWO THINGS: 1. the word of Gods promise and 2. the ratification of a covenant.

In the ongoing plan of salvation, the altar represents our response to God as He explains more and more of what He must do in order to save us.

The first example of this dynamic relationship is Noah. Gen. 8:20.

And Noah builded an altar unto the LORD; and took of every clean beast, and of every clean fowl, and offered Make thee an ark of burnt offerings on gopher wood; rooms the altar. shalt thou make in the And behold, I it ark, and shalt pitch within and without with establish my covenant pitch. Gen 6:14 with you, and with your seed after you;
Gen.8:20; 9:9

And I will establish my covenant with you; neither shall all flesh be cut off any more by the waters of a flood; neither shall there any more be a flood to destroy the earth. Gen 9:11

And God said, This is the token of the covenant which I make between me and you and every living creature that is with you, for perpetual generations: Gen 9:12

Notice the distinction between clean and unclean animals, many centuries before the Covenant at Sinai.

st 1 ,

Notice also that the token or sign of Gods covenant with Noah in verse 12 is the rainbow.

God declared to Noah that, in seeing the bow, He would never again destroy the world by a flood.

This tells us that Noahs altar/sacrifice was not about Christ at His crucifixion. Rather, it was about Christs judgment at the end of time.

Both the rainbow and the clouds point to the same event, the other executive judgment that is yet to come.

Both the rainbow and the cloud are seen in Rev. 10, where Christ stands on Mt. Zion as He pronounces the seven thunders.
(See Rev. 10: 1-8)

Again, the altar and the sacrifice placed on it tell us about the covenant and the terms of that covenant.

In the Sanctuary system, a lamb placed on the altar both morning and evening says that God offers to man, daily or continual atonement.

That daily atonement went on for 359 days in a year. The sacrifice of the daily offering is referred to in Hebrews as the Old Covenant.

Likewise, on the one Day of Atonement, that sacrifice explained an entirely different covenant agreement that God offers to all men.

That sacrifice in Hebrews is referred to as the New Covenant.

This tells us that God was explaining the terms of two covenants that He would honor with those that enter into agreement with Him.

Many have misunderstood what Hebrews is actually saying about the old covenant precisely because they have not considered this most important issue.

The old and new covenants will be thoroughly discussed and explained in our presentation on Hebrews and the New Covenant.

The point being made here is that the Old Covenant represents the ongoing, unceasing atonement that God offers as we come to Christ daily.

Conversely, the New Covenant is the provision that God will make for the end of sins and the final atonement that must mean the end of all mercy forever.

What the Altar of Burnt Offering tells us is that God is measuring and qualifying our commitment of sacrifice to Him.

The brass, the wood, and the horns all represent the standard of Christs excellence as our Mediator and Advocate on a path that will take us to the very throne of God.

Those that do not offer an acceptable sacrifice to God advance no further along the path to Gods throne.

This explains why, only the priests were allowed to partake of the services in the Sanctuary.

The Brass Laver

So far we have explored the meaning of the Outer Curtain and the Altar of Burnt Offering.

What is apparent is that the furniture of the Sanctuary is actually a path that takes us to the very throne of God.

Once again, the point of it all is that God is preparing the world for a day of judgment.

What God would have us understand is like it or not, that day is coming.

If we accept Christ as our Lord and Savior, the first thing we must do is offer ourselves as a living sacrifice .

And if we do offer ourselves to Him, He offers us a new beginning, at the laver.

Understanding the Laver of Baptism

18 Thou shalt also make a laver of brass, and his foot also of brass, to wash withal: and thou shalt put it between the tabernacle of the congregation and the altar, and thou shalt put water therein.
19 For Aaron and his sons shall wash their hands and their feet thereat: Exod 30:18-19

HANDS & FEET are very powerful symbols in scripture.

Concerning Noah, the Word of God says: And he called his name Noah, saying, This same shall comfort us concerning our work and toil of our hands, because of the ground which the LORD hath cursed. Gen 5:29

Hands represent the fruit of ones labor.

Feet are also highly symbolic.

And he said, Draw not nigh hither: put off thy shoes from off thy feet, for the place whereon thou standest is holy ground. Exo 3:5

God says that the way or path of a mans life is naked and bare before the eyes of the Lord.

The feet represent a chosen path or destination!

Together, the washing of the priests hands and feet represent the qualifications of the office of the priesthood. Our works and our chosen path must be clean before the Lord. Therefore the Lord says:

How beautiful upon the mountains are the feet of him that bringeth good tidings, that publisheth peace; that bringeth good tidings of good, that publisheth salvation; that saith unto Zion, Thy God reigneth! Depart ye, depart ye, go ye out from thence, touch no unclean thing; go ye out of the midst of her; be ye clean, that bear the vessels of the LORD. Isa 52:7, 11

A BAPTISM BY FIRE
11 I indeed baptize you with water unto repentance: but he that cometh after me is mightier than I, whose shoes I am not worthy to bear: he shall baptize you with the Holy Ghost, and with fire:

12 Whose fan is in his hand, and he will throughly purge his floor, and gather his wheat into the garner; but he will burn up the chaff with unquenchable fire. Matt 3:11-12

Johns reference to the wheat and the chaff is what Paul refers to in Hebrews as the shaking, which was the time of ingathering, when the wheat was separated from the chaff.

Baptism by Fire
Jesus answered and said, .. Are ye able to drink of the cup that I shall drink of, and to be baptized with the baptism that I am baptized with? And he saith unto them, Ye shall drink indeed of my cup, and be baptized with the baptism that I am baptized with:
Matt. 20:22-23

Yea, and all that will live godly in Christ Jesus shall suffer persecution. 2 Tim 3:12

THE DISCIPLES WERE SYMBOLICALLY BAPTIZED AT THE LAST SUPPPER. THEY WASHED THEIR OWN HANDS, (Cleansed by works) BUT JESUS WASHED THEIR FEET, (Cleansed their way)

If we accept the terms of Gods covenant agreement that are represented by the altar of sacrifice

a new life in Christ means being cleansed from all sin so that we become a part of the body of Christ.

Know ye not that the unrighteous shall not inherit the kingdom of God? And such were some of you: but ye are washed, but ye are sanctified, but ye are justified in the name of the Lord Jesus, and by the Spirit of our God. 1Co 6:9,11

The Mystery of Godliness in Christ Jesus

The Bible likens the Man Christ Jesus to a tree. Gold represents wealth, which is called Wisdom in the context of spiritual things.

Scripture says: Happy is the man that findeth wisdom, and the man that getteth understanding. For the merchandise of it is better than the merchandise of silver, and the gain thereof than fine gold.
Prov 3:13-14

Jesus is the wooden pillar. He is the Tree of Life, and the PILLAR of the Church.

He is wrapped in gold, which is Wisdom.

He stands on a white cloud, which has a silver lining.

The The Wisdom Wisdom of of God God was was sacrificed sacrificed for for our our sake sake as as it it is is written: written:

one of the soldiers with a spear pierced His side, Jn.20:34

Altogether, the wooden column, the golden covering, and the silver based socket represent the Lord Jesus Christ as He is seen in the Revelation.

Understanding what the reinforced boards or walls of the Tabernacle represent, we can see that both the curtains and the walls are the flesh (Heb. 10:20) and the body of Christ. (Rev.1:13,14)

To pass beyond the veil and enter into the Tabernacle represents the most intimate relationship that any believer can have with Christ, as one prepares for the Day of Judgment.

In ancient times, a wall was a kind of fortification. A wall was ones protection and shelter from all things external.

The Linen Curtain and the Golden Pillars of the Sanctuary represent the fortification of Christs character and ministry.
In no uncertain terms, the walls of the Sanctuary declare: I determined not to know anything among you, save Jesus Christ, and Him crucified. 1Cor. 2:2

The Light of the world is really a promise. Jesus promises that the the light of the Gospel will go forth into all the world!

The overwhelming majority of Christians in the world today do not understand Calvary, and the Cross of Christ, even though they might think they do.

WHY?

Because, like all the others, the cross is a veiled symbol.

Most Christians see the cross from a very selfish and self-centered perspective.

Based on what seems to be the obvious truth about Christs sacrifice, Christians believe that Jesus died on Calvary.

Furthermore, they believe that His death paid for the sins of the whole world.

While these generalities work for most people, they do the sacrifice of Calvary a gross injustice.

There are two profound truths that the Tabernacle seeks to teach us about Christs sacrifice on the cross.

The first truth concerns the nature and definition of the word death, as it relates to Christ and Calvary.

The second truth concerns the issue of debt, and what price was paid for our sins when Jesus died on Calvary.

The scriptures plainly tell us that in the sanctuary service, a lamb was slain morning and evening for 359 days in the year.

Its blood was then taken into the Sanctuary by the daily priest who would offer the merits of that blood as a substitute for the sinner.

We must understand that, at no time did the sacrifice of the lamb or the offering of Its blood ever cancel the debt for sin.

Hebrews makes it clear that the sins of the Holy Place were continually being atoned for, UNTIL the Day of Atonement. Heb.9:6

ONLY on the Day of Atonement were sins actually blotted out. Accordingly, all those whose sins were not atoned for on that day were forever cut off from Israel!
Heb.10:18

Altho Christians have the book of Hebrews and often refer to chapter 11, the part of the book that explains this truth is altogether neglected.

It is Satans avowed purpose to keep this truth from the minds and hearts of those that look to Jesus for their salvation.

The break in tradition that todays Christians are guilty of is part of a pattern that seeks to separate Christianity from the Old Testament.

So, is this the time that the apostle wrote about when he said
For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine; but after their own lusts shall they heap to themselves teachers, having itching ears; And they shall turn away their ears from the truth, and shall be turned unto fables. 2Ti 4:3,4

What most Christians dont understand about this prediction (2Tim4:3) is that Calvary will truly be a most heated and controversial issue as the truth is proclaimed thru-out the world.

The controversy over what happened on Calvary is Gods way of testing all those that profess their faith in the redeemer.

Think not that I am come to send peace on earth: I came not to send peace, but a sword.
For I am come to set a man at variance against his father, and the daughter against her mother, and the daughter in law against her mother in law. Mat 10:34, 35

What most people hold to be the popular truth and what is the real truth are two entirely different things, as far as the Gospel of the Kingdom is concerned.

The scriptures tell us plainly that the wages of sin is death.

And yet somehow, Christians dont take this statement seriously.

And that is Satans plan.

In Gethsemane, Christ drank the cup that the Father gave to him.

And he went a little further, and fell on his face, and prayed, saying, O my Father, if it be possible, let this cup pass from me: nevertheless not as I will, but as thou wilt. Mat 26:39

So lets ask the question: What was that cup that Jesus was referring to?

For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men, who hold the truth in unrighteousness; Rom 1:18

In Gethsemane, the Father gave to Christ, the full realization of the sins of the whole world.

And as the Creator, Christ took upon Himself the guilt and shame of all our sins.

No wonder we are told, he sweat great drops of blood.

In Gethsemane, we see the Savior, who knew no sin, actually dying from the burden of sin!!

All of this happened before He was hung on the Cross!

This means that, in addition to the burden of sin that was still upon Him

Christ endured the unspeakable agony of being crucified!

But let us not miss the lesson that God would have us learn!

The point about all of this that hasnt hit us yet is...

Sin was killing the Son of God, who IS GOD!

Sin was crushing the life out of God, when He only took on Himself the burden of responsibility for sin.

Which tells us that, if sin will crush God to death, what will it do to us?

For many reasons, we have turned Calvarys most fundamental truth into a pleasing platitude and somehow deceived ourselves into thinking that we wont really suffer and die from our sins.

We seem to think that the cross of Christ will spare us from all of this.

But! Make no mistake about it, the Bible is clear on this point.

The soul that sinneth, it shall die. The son shall not bear the iniquity of the father, neither shall the father bear the iniquity of the son: the righteousness of the righteous shall be upon him, and the wickedness of the wicked shall be upon him. Eze 18:20

If any man worship the beast and his image, and receive his mark in his forehead, or in his hand,
The same shall drink of the wine of the wrath of God, which is poured out without mixture into the cup of his indignation; and he shall be tormented with fire and brimstone in the presence of the holy angels,

and in the presence of the Lamb: Rev 14: 9,10

To be fair, Paul makes it clear that this presumption to sin on our part is to a great extent, the weakness of the old covenant.

The Old Covenant was never designed to remove the conscience of sins.

Nor could it show the sinner the true sinfulness of sin, which is to say, the leper could not feel his own pain, or smell his own stink.

Not so under the new covenant. The new covenant promises to show all men what is the true sinfulness of sin.

And we do need to understand that this is why God chose to symbolize the cross as a burning bush.

God could not find a more eloquent understatement that would symbolize the wrath of God as it was poured out on His own Son.

When the church preaches the cross of Christ in verity, it will stir up the wrath of Satan, and all those that side with him against God.

The vast majority of professed believers will not accept the salvation of God that ignores His Sabbath, and the truth that lies within it Gods rest from sin.

They will chose to believe that they CAN be saved within a measure of sin, because of their PRESUMPTUOUS misunderstanding of Calvary.

This will prove to be their undoing in the day of judgment, when God will pour out his wrath on all flesh, and the scales are removed from their eyes.

Because I have called, and ye refused; I have stretched out my hand, and no man regarded; But ye have set at nought all my counsel, and would none of my reproof

I also will laugh at your calamity; I will mock when your fear cometh; When your fear cometh as desolation, and your destruction cometh as a whirlwind; when distress and anguish cometh upon you.

Then shall they call upon me, but I will not answer; they shall seek me early, but they shall not find me:
For that they hated knowledge, and did not choose the fear of the LORD:

They would none of my counsel: they despised all my reproof. Therefore shall they eat of the fruit of their own way, and be filled with their own devices.

For the turning away of the simple shall slay them, and the prosperity of fools shall destroy them.

But whoso hearkeneth unto me shall dwell safely, and shall be quiet from fear of evil. Pro 1:24 - 33

The judgment of the living can only begin as the Cross is proclaimed IN VERITY!

Because the Judgment of the Living IS the Cross of Christ loudly proclaimed to all the world.

This is why, two thousand years earlier, God gave to Moses the pattern that was shown to him in the Mount.

The truth has been in place since the time of Moses, and therefore stands as an indictment against those that will rebel against it, when the final apostasy shall come.

In our study of Daniel, we will see just how God will address the deceptions of Satan, and the Churchs struggle to defend the faith under the wrath of Satan.

Understanding the Table of Shewbread

The two things we want to consider are:

The Bread The Table

And thou shalt overlay it with pure Thou shalt also make a table of gold, and make thereto crown of shittim cubits shall be the gold wood: round two about. Exod 25:23-24 length thereof, and a cubit the breadth thereof, and a cubit and a half the height thereof.

In Scripture, the word table is used in two different contexts, and therefore has two different meanings

1. It is a place of dining, in communion and fellowship

Thou preparest a table before me...
Ps 23:5

2. It is a thing written upon like a notepad

Now go, write it before them in a table, and note it in a book, Isa 30:8

Strongs Concordance defines the word Shewbread as a compound word:

lechem (lekh'-em);which means food (for man or beast), especially bread, or grain.

Likewise, the word shewbread is also AND paniym (paw-neem'): which means the presence used in two contexts. or more literally, the face.

In Hebrew, the word shewbread can also be translated, FACE-BREAD, or Bread (in) the Presence of God.

The word faceis used in Genesis in The term faceabread symbolic sense, might sound strange,

but

Where it considermeans this. the identity of something or someone. Gen.1:2

It stands to reason then, that there has to be a connection between the TABLE (communion) and the IDENTITY (face) of the WORD of GOD! (bread)

THERE MOST DEFINITELY IS A CONNECTION!!

The TABLE that IDENTIFIES Jesus Christ as the WORD of GOD is

The Last Supper!

At At the the Last Last Supper Supper Jesus Jesus said: said:
Father, Father, the the hour hour is is come; come; glorify glorify thy thy Son, Son, that that thy thy Son Son also also may may glorify glorify thee: thee: And And this this is is life life eternal, eternal, that that they they might might know know thee thee the the only only true true God, God, and and Jesus Jesus Christ, Christ, whom John whom thou thou hast hast sent. sent. John 17:1,3 17:1,3

The Last Supper was the time of the Passover

And the Passover was the last communion that Jesus would have with His disciples before His crucifixion.

The Passover was also the sign of the Lords victory over the power of sin and death.

Which explains the placement of the crown.

The Lord commanded that a crown be placed on the table

The The length length of of a a mans mans hand hand

make unto it a border of an hand breadth round about Exod 25:25

A crown made the size of a mans hand is Gods way of proclaiming His victory over the power of the adversary.

Likewise, the crown placed on the table of communion is Gods way of promising victory to all those that partake of its daily bread.

And I will stretch out my hand, and smite Egypt with all my wonders which I will do in the midst thereof: and after that he will let you go. Exod 3:20

The Alpha and the Omega.

God foretold in the beginning what He would do in the end.

Type met anti-type in the Passover.

Many Christians partake of the Lords Supper, some more frequently than others.

The question is, how many believers UNDERSTAND what the ritual actually means?

Weve seen the Passover as type and anti-type, as far as Christ is concernedbut what does it mean for us, as we look to the future?

How does the Table of the Passover relate to us today, if at all?

Christ instituted the Lords Supper in order to keep ever before us the mark of the prize of the high calling in Christ Jesus.

And what is that mark that Paul refers to in Php. 3:14?

The high calling is Mt. Zion, the mountain of the New Covenant, as explained in Heb. 12.

Partaking of the communion service is our pledge, our promise to come when called.

Partaking of the communion service is also our pledge and promise to partake of the cross.

Then said Jesus unto his disciples, If any man will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow me. Mat 16:24

Some of the most misunderstood and misapplied symbols in prophecy concern the Mt. that Paul describes in Hebrews 12.

What Christians fail to understand is that, what Sinai was to the old Covenant, Mt. Zion is to the New Covenant .

Christians everywhere need to understand what the shaking time is, and what they may expect to occur as we draw ever nearer to the coming crisis.

Understanding

The Altar of Incense

There are 3 parts to the Altar of Incense.

The Horns
The Censer The Altar

It is no coincidence that both of these altars involved wood.

the wood that under was used Notice that a sacrifice the as Mosaic Covenant

BECOMES the altar of sacrifice!

In an earlier discussion, we noted that wood was necessary for any sacrifice...
because the wood (of a tree) represents Christ.

So the real question is What about the altar itself? What is its meaning?

As we noted earlier

God consistently associates the erection of an altar with the ratification of a covenant.
Noah: Gen. 8:20 Abram: Gen.12:8; 22:9 Jacob: Gen. 28:18 Moses: Exod. 17:16

Each one of these patriarchs erected an altar in direct response to a promise from God.

An altar is simply a pile of dirt or rocks. According to scripture, Noah was the first person build an that, altar in unto the (Exod. 20: 24,25) Weto might say a manner Gen of speaking,LORD. an altar is 8:20 a type of hill.

Note the ascending order of: We see this same order

The Sacrifice

The Wood The Altar

At Calvary.

The Sacrifice (Jesus) The Wood (Cross)

The Altar (Golgotha)

To erect an altar is to express ones faith in a Redeemer to come.

No wonder then, God associated the building of an altar with His covenant promise...

Understanding the Horns of the Altar

The Altar of Incense and the Altar of Burnt Offering have one thing in common.

They both have FOUR HORNS.

The Horn is a symbol of SPIRITUAL power. Ex.21:29; 27:2

And Hannah prayed, and said, My heart rejoiceth in the LORD, mine horn is exalted in the LORD: my mouth is enlarged over mine enemies; because I rejoice in thy salvation. 1 Sam 2:1

The horn of Hannahs prayer was its power to get through.

Her horn was exalted Like incense simply means, it was lifted up to God.

The Horn as a symbol of spiritual power

represents the Efficacy of a Sacrifice.

In other words

it represents the motive and the purpose of a sacrifice.

The horns represent the most important aspect of the altars function.

Its Power!

God commanded that the horns should be the height of the altar.

or 2Cubits

1 Whole, or 4 Cubits

In doing this, God makes the point that the horn is equally as important as the altar itself.

3 Cubits 3 Cubits

In proportion, the horns on the altar of burnt offering were higher. They were also the same height as the altar.

So the question is, why were the horns on the altar of incense a cubit less? Why the difference?

InA ancient cubit istimes, the cubit was considered a unit of measure. considered to be approx. 18 inches
nine cubits was the length thereof, and four cubits the breadth of it, after the cubit of a because it was the man. Deut 3:11

measure of a mans arm.

Concerning His own arm, the Lord says: Wherefore say unto the children of Israel, I am the LORD, and I will bring you out from under the burdens of the Egyptians, and I will rid you out of their bondage, and I will redeem you with a stretched out arm, and with great judgments: Exod 6:6

The horns on the incense altar were smaller because God was saying something about their location.

By way of contrast and comparison, when we look at the two altars side by side.

We would have to say that the horn on the altar of incense is the smaller horn. Or, we could also call it the Little Horn, because Daniel does. Dan. 7:8

It must be said that, unless we understand this distinction that God makes concerning the two horns, we cannot truly appreciate Daniels prophecy.

An altar of wood, covered in gold, with four horns, rightly represents Jesus Christ as our daily priest. He ministers in our behalf on a daily basis before the Fathers throne.

The Altar of Incense explains what Jesus has been doing since He ascended into heaven.

The Bible says:

But this man, because he continueth ever, hath an unchangeable priesthood.

Wherefore he is able also to save them to the uttermost that come unto God by him, seeing he ever liveth to make intercession for them. Heb 7:24-25

Revelation tells us that when John saw Jesus, he was dressed as a priest. NOT as the High Priest!

John saw Jesus as his daily priest and intercessor, clothed in white linen.

The Altar of Incense was that place where the prayers of the saints ascended before God.

Revelation says:
And another angel came and stood at the altar, having a golden censer; and there was given unto him much incense, that he should offer it with the prayers of all saints upon the golden altar which was before the throne.
And the smoke of the incense, which came with the prayers of the saints, ascended up before God out of the angel's hand. Rev 8:3-4

Understanding the Censer

The Censer was used to burn incense.

But what does the censer represent?

Concerning We already brass, understand the Lord that said: brass is highly symbolic. ItAll represents Gods of refining the vessels the and purifying process. tabernacle in all the

Brass represents a trial by fire.

The true meaning and significance of the censer was explained to Abraham.

And it came to pass, that, when the sun went down, and it was dark, behold a smoking furnace, and a burning lamp that passed between those pieces.
In the same day the LORD made a covenant with Abram, Gen 15:17-18

The experience of Abraham is very helpful in understanding the meaning and purpose of the censer.

The censer represents the prayers of the penitent being offered up to God.

The fact that it is referred to as a smoking furnace is again, Gods way of explaining the intensity of the prayer experience.

Abraham experienced a horror of great darkness as a deep sleep fell upon him. Gen. 15:12

in Gethsemane That horror, and that deep sleep was Gods way of showing Abraham what His Son would experience as He prayed

The censer is a most powerful and eloquent symbol, representing the most important prayer that has ever been uttered.

Saying, Father, if thou be willing, remove this cup from me: nevertheless my will, from but thine, And he wasnot withdrawn thembe done. Luke 22:41,42 about a stone's cast, and kneeled down, and prayed,

The Prayers of Christ are

The Sanctifying Power of Prayer

2. The Censer 3. The Four Horns

Altogether, these three pieces of furniture occupy the Holy Place.

They define what Daniel and Hebrews refer to as The Daily.

Understanding the Holy Place

The Significance of The Daily

According to Num 4:16, the Tabernacle required an ongoing routine of daily maintenance.

In Num.29:6, the term refers specifically to the sacrifices that were offered every day.

In Dan.8:11&12, the reference to the daily sacrifice that is taken away can only mean one thing

Now this is that which thou shalt offer upon the altar; two lambs of the first year day by day continually. The one lamb thou shalt offer in the morning; and the other lamb thou shalt offer at even: Exod 29:38-39

In seeing Him, John the Baptist declared: Behold the Lamb of God, which taketh away the sin of the world. John 1:29

In stating this, John was really saying that Jesus would be the sin-bearer of the world.

The sins of Israel accumulated in the first apartment for 359 days in the year

The Holy Place, which represents Christ, was the sin-bearer for all those that had faith in the Redeemer to come.

The Holy Place represents the work of ONGOING SANCTIFICATION in the life of the believer.

The Power of Prayer

The Truth of Gods Word

The Light of the Cross

These three things represent all that is needed to prepare the believer for what follows the daily service.

And what follows is

Within the Inner Veil

In the Most Holy Place

Intermission

Understanding the Veil

Concerning the meaning and significance of this Inner Veil, the scriptures are clear:

Having boldness to enter into the holiest by the blood of Jesus, by a new and living way, which He hath consecrated for us, through the veil, that is to say, His flesh; Heb.10:19,20

The Inner Veil represents an entirely different religious experience that the believer will enter into. Hebrews calls it a New and Living Way.

This New Way is the New Covenant, which is a new way of seeing and understanding who Jesus is. It involves a promise that God makes in Jeremiah 31.

In order to understand the Veil, one must understand the meaning and the significance of the colors that were used to make the Veil.

Red

Blue

Purple

Concerning these two colors, the scriptures are perfectly clear, and there should be no doubt as to what these colors represent.

Red

Purple

Come now, and let us reason together, saith the LORD: though your sins be as scarlet, they shall be as white as snow; though they be red like crimson, they shall be as wool. Isa 1:18

RED = SIN

But what does purple mean?

24 And Gideon said unto them, I would desire a request of you, that ye would give me every man the earrings of his prey. 26 And the weight of the golden earrings that he requested was a thousand and seven hundred shekels of gold;

beside ornaments, and collars, and purple raiment that was on the kings of Midian, 27 And Gideon made an ephod thereof, and put it in his city, even in Ophrah: and all Israel went thither a whoring after it: which thing became a snare unto Gideon, and to his house. Judg 8:24-27

PURPLE = IDOLATRY

And the woman was arrayed in purple and scarlet colour, and decked with gold and Revelation says: precious stones and pearls, having a golden 3 So he carried me away in cup in her hand full of abominations and the spirit into wilderness: filhthiness ofthe her fornication:

and I saw a woman sit upon a scarlet coloured beast, full of names of blasphemy, having seven heads and ten horns.

5 And upon her forehead was a name written, MYSTERY, BABYLON THE GREAT, THE MOTHER OF HARLOTS AND ABOMINATIONS OF THE EARTH. Rev.17:3-5

Clearly, the colors red and purple represent SIN and IDOLATRY.

But what does BLUE represent?

And Aholah played the harlot when she was mine; and she doted on her lovers, on the Assyrians her neighbours,

Which were clothed with blue, captains and rulers, all of them desirable young men, horsemen riding upon horses. Ezek 23:5-6

Ezekiel says that the Assyrian leaders wore blue, and not purple. We can therefore assume that leadership or authority is not the issue associated with this color.

Aholah and Aholibah were smitten by the Assyrians because they were proud and rebellious.

In all of scripture, only four texts do not refer specifically to the Veil, with respect to the color BLUE.
In all 4 texts, blue is consistently associated with purple, in referring to those leaders that err concerning the sin of pride and rebellion. (See also Jer.10:9).

Altogether, the three colors: red, purple, & blue represent SIN
IDOLATRY
PRIDE & REBELLION

Why would a Veil of White Linen be INTERWOVEN with RED, and PURPLE? So BLUE, the question is

The word embroidered is the key!

The very ACT of making the Linen Curtain was an object lesson about Jesus Christ!

THElinen VEIL of IS Christs A The white TREMENDOUSLY righteousness was transformed STATEMENT! byPOETIC the burden of our sins, as the very fabric of His being was changed. He bore upon Himself, the burden of our iniquity! Praise the Lord!

The Veil represents the burden of sin that Christ would bear. No wonder Hebrews says, the Veil represents His flesh.
Heb.10:20

The same can be said st concerning the 1 curtain that covered the Sanctuary

Understanding the Four Coverings

Were the four coverings One might ask the question: REALLY necessary? Why do four layers cover the Sanctuary?

? ? ? ?

The term covering, from the Hebrew ohel (o-hel), is more accurately translated as tent, as in a dwelling place. This is consistent with what God said earlier. And let them make me a sanctuary;
that I may dwell among them. Exod 25:8

The term sanctuary also means a dwelling place; more specifically, it means a consecrated dwelling place.

IN FOUR DIFFERENT PLACES! Gods plan of salvation would

therefore involve Him in a four part communion

It makes sense then, that 4 coverings would represent four dwelling places.

In the ONE covering of four parts

God is saying something very significant about His plan of salvation.

The 4 layers of covering explain 4 different levels or layers in the plan of salvation.

They explain a kind of descending order if you will.

Gods heaven is the highest level.

The 4 layers of covering explain the 4 things that are above the tabernacle.

They explain the highest priorities in Gods plan of redemption.

Heaven is Gods

The four coverings represent Gods plan as revealed from above.

HEAVEN

THE EARTH

Revelation 12 explains that

The Great Controversy between Christ Satan began inand heaven.

And there was war in heaven: Michael and his angels fought against the dragon; and the dragon fought and his angels,
And prevailed not; neither was their place found any more in heaven. Rev 12:7-8

The Bible makes it clear that what began in heaven was continued in the earth.

Now there was a day when the sons of God came to present themselves before the LORD, and Satan came also among them.

And the the LORD LORD said said unto unto Satan, Satan, And Whence comest comest thou? thou? Whence

Then Satan answered the LORD, and said, From going to and fro in the earth, and from walking up and down in it. Job 1:6-7

Satan points an accusing finger at both, heaven and the earth.

Therefore heaven is just as interested in the conflict as the earth is.

makes up the Inner Veil that covered The Innermost covering represents the the Tabernacle. It is a most eloquent sacrifice that Jesus would make for symbol of heavens what Christs life on earth sake. would mean to all that dwell in heaven.

The other three coverings reveal the other three main priorities in Gods plan.

And again, the book of Revelation is the key to understanding.

the Beginning, God gave AndIn God said, Let us make man in our Adamafter dominion over three image, our likeness: and things: let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over the cattle, and over all the earth, and over every creeping thing that creepeth upon the earth. Gen 1:26

In the beginning, Adams dominion consisted of everything in:

The Sea

The Earth

The Earth

The entire scenario of the end-time is explained in terms of these same three dominions.
And I saw another angel fly in the midst of heaven Saying with a loud voice, Fear God, and give glory to him; for the hour of his judgment is come: and worship him that made heaven (the air), and earth, and the sea, and the fountains of waters. Rev 14:6-7

The prophecy of Daniel explains the meaning of the goat hair covering.

In the sanctuary service

the goat was used as both, a peace offering, and as a sin offeringLev.3:12; 4:24.

A goat was also offered on the Day of Atonement!

Concerning this goat Daniel says:

And as I was considering, behold, an he goat came from the west on the face of the whole earth, and touched not the ground: and the goat had a notable horn between his eyes. Dan 8:5

Jesus identified Satan as the prince of this world. Jn. 14:30

Paul also refers to him as the prince of the power of the air.
Eph.2:2

Concerning the goat, Jesus said:

When the Son of man shall come in his glory, and all the holy angels with him, then shall he sit upon the throne of his glory:

And before him shall be gathered all nations: and he shall separate them one from another, as a shepherd divideth his sheep from the goats: Matt 25:31-32

The Bible says:

For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places. Eph 6:12

The Scapegoat of Lev.16:8 is none other than Satan, the one who represents a power from above.

It also represents those who serve him in high places.

The goat hair covering represents Christs victory over the principalities and powers of the air.

Revelation also explains the meaning of the Rams Skin dyed red.

And the great dragon was cast out, that old serpent, called the Devil, and Satan, which deceiveth the whole world:

he was cast out into the earth, and his angels were cast out with him. Rev Rev 12:9 12:9

Therefore the scripture says:

Woe unto the inhabiters of the earth, and of the sea! for the devil is come down unto you, having great wrath
Rev.12:12

Notice that Satans wrath comes as a result of his fall.

And Satans fall comes AFTER the victory of the saints that dwell in heaven. Vs.10

Revelation explains that In Daniel 8, the He-goat attacks the Ram as he descends from heaven to the earth.

the fall of the He-goat in Daniel is the same fall of Satan in Revelation. Rev.12:10.

Daniels prophecy explains Satans anger. The ram has been historically identified as the kingdom of Greece. I saw the ram pushing westward, and northward, and southward; so that no beasts might stand before him, neither was there any that could deliver out of his hand; but he did according to his will, and But clearly, if the ram represents became great. Dan 8:4

the sacrifice of Jesus Christ

then the prophecy of Dan.8 identifies the Ram with the great gospel commission of Matt.24.

The gospel going forth into all the world explains both, Satans anger and his fall to the earth.

they, the saints, are attacked because they overcome the enemy

by the blood of the Lamb.

Christs dominion in the earth

Both Daniel and the Revelation explain that

is represented by a covering of Rams skins dyed red.

Finally, we come to the last layer.

The Covering of Badgers Skins.

The term badgers skin is more correctly translated in the Revised Version as seals skins.

Gugong The skins were taken from a sea-cow.

This explains why the last covering involves the third dominion, and why it skin. is represented as a seals skin.

The Gugong was an unclean creature that was taken from the sea sea.

Revelation explains that the final phase of the conflict is sea. played out in the sea .

The creatures in the sea experience the same wrath of Satan seen earlier, when he fell to the earth.

The greatest harvest of the earth takes place in the sea, after the harvest if finished in the earth.
Matt. 13:47

The four coverings represent Gods unfailing promise to tabernacle with His people during the most difficult time in history.

Revelation explains that the hour of Gods judgment is also a time of persecution and wrath.
