3rd Observation - 4th Hour Geometry
Use the definition of central angles and linear pairs to find unknown measurements in polygons. II. Behavioral/Objective: A. I am going to be teaching students to use previous knowledge about linear pairs and new knowledge about central angles to find unknown values. I will also be introducing the names of polygons. III. Anticipatory Set: A. The students will begin by working on a warm-up where they are naming types of polygons. IV. Objectives/Purpose: A. The student will be able to use the definition of polygons, linear pairs and central angles to find unknown angle measurements. V. Input: A. Task Analysis 1. Students will begin working on the warm-up in their notes packet. Teacher will allow them 2 minutes to write down their answers then they will copy the answers from the board. 2. The teacher will guide the students through the notes on the powerpoint for the definition of certain terms. 3. I will use an applet to show how interior and exterior angles always add up to equal 180 degrees. 4. Students will complete examples from their notes about linear pairs and their angle measurements. 5. I will use another applet to demonstrate what central angles are. 6. Students will be guided through example problems in the notes, students will be able to create an equation to find the measurement of the central angle. B. Thinking Levels: Blooms Taxonomy 1. Knowledge know what the different types of polygons are. 2. Comprehension concept check will be given out 3. Application Solve an algebraic equation for an unknown 4. Analysis check your algebraic solution within the context of the problem. 5. Synthesis create an equation to solve for unknowns. 6. Evaluation justify your answer to your peers. C. Learning Styles and/or Accommodations 1. Walking around the classroom giving individualized help where necessary. 2. Allowing students to communicate with each other on how to do problems.
D. Method and Materials 1. Teacher Materials: PowerPoint for Lesson 4, Completed notes for lesson 4, applet on computer, homework packet on the computer pulled up for quick access. 2. Student Materials: Homework packet, notes packet VI. Modeling A. Showing an example before the class B. Verbalizing my thought process as I work through the problem C. Visual input on the board D. Using online application to visualize the movement of the angles VII. Checking for Understanding A. Questions: 1. What does the question ask us to solve for? 2. What do central angles add up to equal? 3. What is a linear pair of angles? VII. Guided Practice A. Guided practice during their work time where they can ask questions as I walk around the classroom. IX. Independent Practice A. Applicable for one/two students who wish to work alone. X. Closure A. Wrap up with a review of the day, walking through a problem quickly
