Monument Project Design a moment for a famous American.

The overall appearance of your monument should be clean with no ragged edges. Your monument must be able to fit inside a large shoebox. (You do not need a shoebox.) Colorful or visually pleasing structure. Title with your name under the title. Use whatever you can get your hands on: clay? Cardboard? Styrofoam? Aluminum foil? Toilet paper rolls? Recycle, and reuse!

Your monument project should also include an essay with a beginning, middle and end. I have included sample topic sentences for you to use, but feel free to be creative! 1st paragraph: Early Life- How did the persons life experiences influence his or her contributions? o Sample thesis This person has influenced America in many ways and I will share them with you. I will share with you how __________ contributed to American history and why they are important. 2nd paragraph: Contributions- Why is this person important enough to have a monument? How did this person perpetuate the ideas of life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness? o Sample topic sentence ___________ contributed to American history in many ways ___________ is famous for many reasons. rd 3 paragraph: Change the World- How did this person change the world? Was it positive or negative? These are your own ideas based on the information you have read. o Sample topic sentence After learning how about __________s contributions, I will now explain how I think _____________ changed the world. th 4 paragraph: Later Life- Describe this persons later life. o Sample topic sentence ___________ went on to do more important things in his later life.

Your project will be graded using the following criteria: Neatly written/typed with no spelling or grammatical errors. (5 pts.) Essay is well constructed with a beginning, middle, and end. (30 pts.) Monument reflects research and knowledge of the famous person. (30 pts.) Citation of three sources in research of the famous person. (10 pts.) Creativity is exhibited and used to enhance the finished product. (20 pts.) Monument is neatly constructed. (5 pts.)

Maximum points= 100 pts. Timeline Research Due March 22nd Essay Due Friday April 5th Monument Due April 19th
