PRICIPLES AND PRACTICE OF MANAGEMENT MGT420 GROUP ASSIGNMENT (20%) SEMESTER SEPTEMBER 2013 JANUARY 2014

This group assignment will address CO1, CO2 and CO3. TASK: Students must choose one organization and analyze the implementation of planning, decision making, and leading processes at the chosen organization. INSTRUCTIONS: In a group of four or five, you are required to:1. Identify and select an organization (it can either be a private company OR not-forprofit organization OR government body) and conduct an interview with at least one of the managers/officers at the organization. The organization chosen should have at least 30 employees. 2. Your interview should cover all aspects of the assigned task. 3. You are required to prepare a written report that discusses the implementation of those three processes at the chosen organization. 4. The final project report must be submitted no later than week 14. 5. The assignment should adhere to the format of academic writing (APA format). 6. Font: Times New Roman 12 / Arial 11, 1.5 spacing. 7. Number of pages: 15 20 pages. (Use black tape) 8. Evidence that the interview has been conducted will be given extra marks.

GUIDELINES OF THE REPORT FORMAT 1. Introduction (not more than 5 pages inclusive of organization chart) i. Explain the background of the organization a. Name of the firm/business and companys logo b. Nature of business (product or service provided) c. Location d. Organization chart

Decision making (including the group decision making techniques used) iii. Leadership (including the most prevalent leadership style in their organization) Recommendation : At least three (3) recommendations on how the organization can further improve (within the scope of the processes discussed).
