Christopher Columbus

Christopher Columbus was born in Genoa, Italy. He requested ships from Queen Isabella and King Ferdinand of Spain to sail west to find a route to Asia, as it was believed the world was flat. In 1492, Columbus set sail with three ships - the Nina, the Pinta, and the Santa Maria - and landed on the Bahamian island of Guanahani on October 12th. Upon arrival, he encountered Native Americans, referred to as Indians, who lived peacefully on the islands.
