Introduction

Group Kaiju

Our objective is to create a boxing video game which is intended to promote the Glasgow Commonwealth Games 2014. This game is being created by Team Kajiu which is comprised of Colin Wyllie, Sean McTaggart, Darren Hunter, Michael McCluskey, and Craig Smith. As a team we decided on the boxing theme for our game as we have a clear and concise idea of how the game should function in terms of mechanics, aesthetic design and how it should be represented to our target audience. Meeting Information The group will mainly meet on a Tuesday during class hours but also have the possibility for occasional meetings on a Thursday morning if required. It is also possible for the group to get in contact outwith the class via facebook, email, and google chat. While the class is not in session the team will be able to work on the game using online resources such as dropbox to share the work that has been produced and facebook to interact with the rest of the group. If a meeting is needed where each member of the team wishes to talk about the ideas, changes or mistakes that have been spotted then a skype conference call can be used. Objectives

Objectives We have chosen to design and create a boxing game which follows the official rules of boxing in the commonwealth games, as well as making it as light-hearted and family friendly as possible. As the game design and creation process is being spread over two terms the first term will be spent designing the game and creating a prototype. The second term will be used to create a fully fleshed out game that will build on the prototype created in the first term. The design stage is twelve weeks and includes the initial planning of the idea, Research of competitors and our target audience, planning the game, The game design, and creating the prototype. In the second term the game has to be finished in a twelve week timescale and within that time frame we have to create the code for the game as well as the sound, artwork and user interface. On top of this we have to test the game throughout the various steps within the development process to ensure that no bugs or problems exist in the final product. A final bug testing phase will be carried out to ensure that the final product is as free from errors as possible this will involve our classmates. General Approach We do not have a group leader instead each of us will be taking lead on individual development tasks that utilise each individual members strengths. We decided on this approach as it means each member will be responsible for their own part of the project rather than having to rely on other members. It also means that each member will have an equal input in any group discussions rather than one member having the final say as group leader. We also strongly felt that this method would be highly beneficial as members would be solely focussing on their strengths. Prototype Our prototype will show a few minutes of gameplay where the player will be able to get a feel for the controls, movement, and attacks. A basic tutorial will be included to familiarize the player with these systems. As the prototype is one fight there will be a

reduced number of features and options available to the user compared to the final game. Any music or art that is used within the prototype will be place holder only and will only serve as a very rough interpretation of the final product. Design The game design is inspired by a number of boxing games (Wii sports Boxing, Ready 2 Rumble, Fight Night Champion, and Punch Out!!). The most notable of these is Punch Out!! due to its popularity and nostalgia. As the game is based on the commonwealth games we will use a lot of images and logos that are related to them. This can include the 2014 commonwealth games logo and country flags. The musical style of the game will play on the nostalgia that people have for boxing such as in the rocky movies Resource requirements For the majority of this project we will be creating the games assets in house this includes the code, music, sound effects, art, UI, animations and dialog. Assets we cannot create within the group will be acquired from sites which allow others to use their work for free. For this reason we will not require any funds to complete this project. Risk Management If one of the members of the team is unable to perform tasks or duties for any reason their tasks will be divided evenly to the rest of the team. This would be the case until a time where the member is able to continue working on the project. In the case that a member of the team is unwilling to perform the tasks set they will need to notify the rest of the team and this action will be recorded and presented to the module lecturer. In order to prevent any loss of project data, backups will be created and stored on external hard drives as well as dropbox and google docs. Evaluation methods In order to make sure our game meets the final requirements for this project the group will spend a portion of our time during the weekly meetings to discussing the games direction and whether or not it is on target. We will also be able to get regular feedback for our lecturer on our games progress. Furthermore we are going to have a number of people from outside the group play test our game, and we will get them to fill out a questionnaire afterwards.
