Captured Power It Is The Power Available at The Antenna
It can be delivered to a load such as a transmission line or a receivers input circuitry. Captured power is directly proportional to the received power density and the effective capture area of the receive antenna. There is an obvious relationship between an antennas size and its ability to capture electromagnetic energy. This suggests that there must also be connection between antenna gain and the antennas receiving cross-sectional area. Mathematically, the two quantities are related as follow:
Ac=
Ac= effective capture area (meters squared) = wavelength of receive signal (meters) Ar= receive antenna power gain(unit less) Rearanging Equation and solving antenna gain given us
Ac=
The captured power is simply the product of the captured power density and the receive antenna captured area.Mathematically captured power is
Pcap =CAc
Where Pcap=captured power (watts) Ac=Effective captured area(meter squared) C=captured power density(watts per meter squared) Substituted into Equation
Pcap=
Where Pcap= captured power(watts) = Ar= At= R= wavelength of receive signal(meters) receive antenna power gain(unitless) transmit antenna power gain(unitless) distance between transmit and receive antennas(meters)
Pin=transmit antenna input power(watts) Example For a receive power density of 10W/ determine: (a)Captured power in watts (b)captured power in dBm. ,and receive antenna with capture area of
