Motor Selection

The document discusses selecting motors and frequency converters for constant torque applications. It calculates the minimum nominal torque and current for 75kW and 55kW motors with 4 and 6 poles based on their loadability graphs. The 6 pole motor draws less current than the 4 pole motor for the same application, making it more economical. A suitable frequency converter can then be selected according to the calculated motor currents for constant torque use.

The constant torque requirement is: Considering the application as constant load

1. Motor p=4 From the graph loadability of the motor is 80%. So (Tmin)nominal= (Pmin)nominal=

The suitable motor given is 75 kW (400 V, 146 A, 50 Hz,1473 rpm and 0.82) motor. Tnominal= Inominal=( T/Tn)xIn=0.8x146=116.8A

According to the calculated motor current a suitable frequency converter can be selected for constant torque use.

2. Motor p=6 From the graph loadability of the motor is 85%. So (Tmin)nominal= (Pmin)nominal=

The suitable motor given is 55 kW (400 V, 110 A, 50 Hz, 984 rpm and 0.82) motor. Tnominal= Inominal=( T/Tn)xIn=0.85x110=93.5A

According to the calculated motor current a suitable frequency converter can be selected for constant torque use.

6 ple motor draws lesser current than 4 pole motor for same application. So pole one will be more economical.
