Development of Early Childhood Education

COURSE INTRODUCTION
Synopsis
This course covers the historical background, opinions of leaders in the field, models and types of programmes and guidelines pertaining to early childhood education until formal education.

Aims
The broad aims of this course are to: 1. 2. 3. 4. Guide learners to understand the historical background of Early Childhood Education; Explain the objectives and philosophy of early childhood education programme with close reference to the early pioneers; Explain the models in early childhood education; and State the key processes in early childhood education.

Outcomes
By the completion of this course, you should be able to: 1. 2. 3. 4. Present a historical overview of the development of early childhood education; Identify the main objectives and philosophy of early childhood education; Present the models in the development of early childhood education; and Discuss the current practices in the operations of early childhood education.

Load
It is a standard OUM practice that learners accumulate 40 study hours for each credit hour. For a three-credit hour course, you should spend at least 120 hours on learning and completing coursework. Table 1 gives an estimate on how the 120 hours could be accumulated.
