Step-by-Step Instructions for MLA Formatting in Microsoft Word 1. Set margins to 1-inch on all sides.

This may be the default setting, but you can check it by selecting the Page Layout tab Margins Normal 2. Select Font Style & Size (Times New Roman, 12-pt). 3. Double-spacing, No space after paragraphs Select the button above the word Paragraph that has the up & down arrows on it. Change spacing from 1.15 to 2.0, then re-select the button and click on Remove Space After Paragraph. 4. Last Name & Page Number in upper right-hand corner of page: Select Insert tab Page Number Top of Page Plain Number 3 Type Last Name followed by a space, then double-click in main document to exit the header area. 5. Type your heading as follows (Align Text left): First & Last Name Mrs. Brown English 1 3rd Hour Date 6. Type the title of the essay (Align Center). 7. Indent first line of each paragraph. *** Everything in MLA Format is double-spaced. Do not add extra spacing after heading, after title, or between paragraphs.
