EEE227 AC Machines Assignment Answer all the questions: Date of Submission: 8 May, 2013

1) A 3.3 kV, 600 KVA, 3 phase, 50 Hz star connected synchronous motor is working on full load. Its excitation is adjusted to give line value of induced back emf as 3.8 kV. Assuming negligible armature resistance and 3.3 per phase as synchronous reactance, find the power factor with which motor is working. (Answer: 0.592 leading) 2) A 3 phase, 4 pole, 50 Hz star connected induction motor running on full load develops a useful torque of 300 Nm. The rotor emf is completing 120 cycles/minute. If torque lost in friction is 50 Nm, calculate i) slip ii) net output power iii) rotor cu loss iv) rotor efficiency (Answer:4%, 45.23 kW, 2199.1134 W, 96%) 3) The full load power input to a 4 pole 50Hz induction motor is 50 kW running at 1440 rpm. Calculate its full load efficiency if stator losses are 1000 W and frictional losses are 650 W. (Answer: 92.78%) 4) A 3 phase, 400 V, 50 Hz, 4 pole induction motor has star connected stator winding. The rotor resistance and reactance are 0.1 and 1 respectively. The full load speed is 1440 rpm. Calculate the torque developed on full load by motor. Assume stator to rotor ratio as 2:1. (Answer:87.81 Nm) 5) A 4 pole, 50 Hz, 3 phase induction motor when loaded has total rotor input of 3000 W. Determine the torque developed. (Answer: 19.098 Nm)
