Pert Chart

Pert charts are useful for project planning and modification. PERT stands for Project Evaluation and Review Technique and was developed to clarify task interdependencies when scheduling projects. A PERT chart is a graphic network technique used to estimate task times, indicate earliest and latest task finishes, and derive the critical path. The critical path is the longest path of tasks in the network that determines the project's minimum completion time.

|PERT CHART}

Pert charts are more usefull for project planning and Modification. PERT stands for Project Evaluation and Control Techniques. It was develop to make clear interdependence of project tasks when projects are being scheduled. Essentially, PERT is a graphic networking technique.

|ESTMATING PROJECT AND TIME REQUIREMENTS AND DERIVING THE PERT CHARTS}

Before drawing a pert chat, you must estimate the time need for each project task. The PERT will be used to indicate the estimated earliest finish and latest finished time for each event and the expected duration of each project task. There is no proven linear relationship between project completion time and the number of people assigned to a project team. many system project that were late have been further delayed by assigning additional personnel to them . Because two people can do a job in four days is no reason to assume that four people can do the same job in two days.

1.Draw the PERT CHART:

* In constructing the PERT diagrame, the analyst looks first at those activities requiring no predecessor activities. In this case A and C. then analyst take the nodes such as 10,20,30 and so on. then we draw two arrow out of the beginning node 10. these arrows represent activities A and C.

2.Determine the critical path.

To find the critical path on projects PERT chart, begin by identifying all the alternate path and routin that exist from event 10 to fonal event. Path 1: A-B-F-G Path 2: A-B-H Path 3: A-B-E-J Path 4: A-D-J Path 5: C-I-J After all paths have been identified calculate the total expected duration time for each path. The total expected duration time for each path is equivalent to the sum of the expected duration times for each task in the path.

Path 1: 5+9+1+10 =25 Path 2: 5+9+5 =19 Path 3: 5+9+13+6 =33 Path 4: 5+8+6 =19 Path 5: 7+6+4 =17 now we can identify the critical oath as the one having the largest total expected duration time. hence,Path 3 is the critical path andindicates the expected time for compeleting the project is 33 weeks.

PERT CHART FOR PLANNING AND CONTROL:

Project managers find PERT charts particularly useful for communication schedules of large system projects to superiors. The primary use and advantage of PERT chart is its ability to assist in the planning and controlling of projects. As a control tool, the PERT chart helps the manager identify current and potential problem.
