Bus Identification System For The Visually Impaired: Project Group

The document describes a bus identification system for visually impaired people developed by project group members Chaitanya Rani V, Sumanth K S, Tauseef Ahmed, and Vishnu V M. The system uses RF technology to allow a visually impaired person to enter their destination at a bus stop, and announces the arrival of the correct bus through a speaker. When the intended bus approaches, the bus stop verifies the destination and plays an audio file of the destination using Matlab code. This allows visually impaired people to independently board the right bus without relying on others.

PROJECT GROUP:
Chaitanya Rani V (1PE09EC023) Sumanth K S (1PE09EC096) Tauseef Ahmed (1PE09EC104) Vishnu V M (1PE09EC115)

AIM:
To develop a system to assist the visually impaired in identifying the bus to the required destination which detects the person at the bus stop and accordingly announces the arrival of that bus, easing his difficulties and dependency on others. (Based on IEEE paper, 2012)

SYNOPSIS
The current situation requires the visually impaired to take the help of a co-passenger in identifying the bus to his required destination. This can be eliminated by using RF technology which assists him in identifying the bus depending upon his destination. When the visually impaired reaches the bus stop he is greeted by a system through which he enters his destination. Whenever the bus to the required destination approaches the bus stop, the ZigBee will

recognize the arrival of the bus for a particular route and verify it against the required destination. If the destinations match it will give voice intimation by using speaker. This is done by using Matlab code which plays an audio file for the respective destination. The Visually Impaired Person can know the arrival of his bus and accordingly board it. Hence, this makes their lives more comfortable by introducing a system that helps them enjoy transportation services independently and freely like ordinary people, without relying on others.
Visually Impaired Person selects his destination on approaching the bus stop

The Bus Stop recognizes the existence of the visually impaired person

The bus stop receives the destination from the visually impaired person.

When the required bus reaches the bus stop, the bus stop announces the arrival of the bus.

The visually impaired person boards the bus.
