Transmission Line Constants

This document discusses the resistance, inductance, and capacitance parameters of AC transmission lines, known as line constants. It explains that these constants determine the efficiency and voltage regulation of the line. The document then goes on to define the internal and external inductance of conductors and the inductance of various single and multiphase line configurations. It also discusses the electric field and capacitance of transmission lines.

TRANSMISSION LINE CONSTANTS

INTRODUCTION
An A.C. transmission line has resistance, inductance and capacitance uniformly distributed along its length. These are known as constants or parameters of the line.

The performance of a transmission line depends to a considerable extent upon these line constants. These constants determine whether the efficiency and voltage regulation of the line will be good or poor.
