Chap 7 Dynamics (F2)
Chap 7 Dynamics (F2)
1. Force
- can change the shape and size of object - move a stationary object - stop a moving object - change the position of moving object -change the direction of moving object
2. Types of forces
- Electrostatic Force
- Gravitational force
- Frictional force
- Magnetic force
3. Measurement of force
6. Ways of Increasing Friction - friction can be increased by increasing _________________ of the surface
7. Ways of decreasing friction - Using wheels - Using rollers - Using ball bearings - Using lubricants - Using a layer of air
8. Application of Work WORK DONE = force must make an object move in same direction as the force
W=fXd
Unit in Joules (J)/ Newton metre (Nm)
Exercise: 1. A bag with a mass of 10 kg is lifted from the from the floor onto a table which has a height of 0.8m. Calculate the amount of work done. (Gravitational force = 10N = 1kg)
2.A worker is pushing a box towards the wall. The distance of the box and the wall is 2m. He is pushing with a force of 400N. (Gravitational force = 10N = 1 kg)
Power = W t
Unit = 1 J/s/ W
Exercises 1. A boy takes 5 minutes to ride his bicycle a distance of 800m. If the force he exerted is 400 N, calculate the rate at which work is done.
2. James pushes a table using a force of 100N over a distance of 2m in 4 seconds. What is the power generated by the student?
