University Of Derby, Sept 2009 June 2013 (Including Placement Year) I am currently in the nal semester of my degree in Fashion Studies. We have a very broad curriculum covering a variety of different aspects of the industry. These are listed below;
Communication Naturally, I am a very chatty and sociable person, so communication is denitely one of my strongest points. I am a very uent writer and quite lucky in the fact that I can churn A-Levels, Sept 2007- June 2009 out page after page of writing in 4 A-Levels including Textiles at grade B, Maths at grade C, English at short periods of time, even more grade B and General Studies at grade B, 1 AS Level. fortunately it actually makes sense, this is supported again by my GCSEs, Sept 2005-June 2007 grades at GCSE & A-Level in the 12 GCSEs all above grade C. These include Textiles at grade A, English subjects. Assistant Designer, House of Capulet, Derby Placement (Unpaid) 19th Sept 2011 Aug 2012 Duties: Helping with all areas of design and manufacture including designing a bridal dress which is now being manufactured in store. Also helping with pricing of stock, buying of new stock, styling displays and all areas of customer service. (Textiles) Classroom Assistant, Thorpe Hill 11-19 Campus, Loughborough Placement (Unpaid) 6th Sept 2011 July 2012 Duties: Helping out with GCSE and A-Level Textiles classes, aiding with students presentation and layout of work, general design skills and style and development of illustration techniques. Assistant Designer, Girlswear, George @ Asda Placement (Unpaid) 27th Feb 2012 9th March 2012 Duties: Editing cads, sorting and categorising catwalk trends then organising these into trend boards, designing stickers for market research, collating market research into presentable format (school report). Assistant Designer, Christys By Design, Barnsley Placement 11th July 2011 30th Aug 2011 Duties: Assisting the creative team in all areas of design and development on Baby/Toddler Wear and Accessories. Creating mood boards, trend boards, trend research, design packs to be sent to china for manufacture and product books for buying meetings. Liaising frequently with Buyers for George @ Asda and John Lewis and also liaising with the manufacture team in China on a daily basis. It is also important to add that I took on an added amount of work during my time there due to a variety of different staff absences. Assistant Designer, Natures Purest, Kibworth Placement (Unpaid) April 2011 Duties: Assisting the creative team in all areas of design and development on Baby/Toddler Wear using organic and un-dyed cotton. Also, assisting store manager in all areas of retail and stock control.
Numeracy My passion for mathematics has meant that I was able to achieve a grade A at GCSE and grade C at A-Level. I see this as an extremely valuable skill to have and I have tried my best to maintain my knowledge of the subject over the years. It comes in extremely handy when specifying measurements during the design process and I would very much like to incorporate this skill with my creativity to achieve my dream job in the industry.
ACHIEVEMENTS
Diploma in Professional Practice from the University of Derby for successfully completing a year out in industry. Certicate in Financial Studies from the IFS School of Finance. Full UK Driving licence and am therefore am willing to travel or commute. Organised and compred fashion shows at my college shown to up to 200 people. Very condent with Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator, Microsoft Word & Excel. Participated in a competition designing t-shirts for Topshops Fashion Targets Breast Cancer range. Was submitted as one of the nal 20 for University of Derby for the Clotheshow Live competition sponsored by River Island. Worked behind the scenes at the 3rd year fashion show, dressing models and being a runner for the DJ communicating for him between all departments as he was unable to during the show.
