OT6 - Functional Independence Measure

The Functional Independence Measure (FIM) is an assessment tool used to measure a patient's level of disability and need for assistance across 18 areas of function. It rates patients on a 7-point scale from complete independence to total assistance needed. The areas assessed include self-care, sphincter control, mobility, locomotion, communication, and cognition. Scores are recorded at admission, discharge, and follow-up to track a patient's progress and functional changes over time.
