RC Series Circuit

This document describes an experiment to determine the power consumed and power factor of a series R-C circuit excited by a single-phase AC supply. The circuit is connected according to the diagram and measurements are taken of voltage and current across different components as the supply voltage is varied from 0-80V. The resistance, reactance, impedance, power factor, and power consumed are then calculated from the measured values. The aim is to study the behavior of the series RC circuit under varying AC input conditions.

Connect the circuit as per the circuit diagram. Switch on the supply vary the variac till a considerable current appears in the circuit. At this instant note down the corresponding meter readings. Vary the variac in steps till supply voltage is 80V and note the readings at each instant. Bring the 1-Ph variac to zero position and switch off the supply.
PRECAUTIONS:

Connect the circuit as per the circuit diagram. Avoid loose and wrong connections. Bring the 1-Ph variac to its initial position before switching off the supply. Avoid parallax error.
