Problem: Figure 1 - Example Output From A Media Contents Report
STATUS CODE: 94, occurs when trying to verify or restore a backup image from a tape
Error
cannot position to correct media (94)
Solution
Overview: A Status Code 94 indicates that the bptm daemon did not find the correct backup id when positioning the media. A Status 94 can occur for a variety of reasons. This could include bad media, a drive hardware problem, or the tape was expired but the catalog images were not automatically removed. Troubleshooting: Run the Media Contents report on the tape to determine what backup images are on the media. 1. Launch the NetBackup Java Administration Console and go to Reports 2. Select the Media Contents report and enter the Media ID: to run the report on 3. It will be necessary to have the media id in the robotic library or standalone drive 4. Click Run Report to run the report This report will read the entire tape and report on what images are found at which positions. (Figure 1) This report can take quite a while to run depending on how large the tape is and how many backup images were written to the tape. Figure 1 - Example output from a Media Contents report
Log Files: The /usr/openv/netbackup/logs/bptm/log.<date> file can show the following errors when trying to restore or verify a backup image.
<2> logconnections: BPDBM CONNECT FROM x.x.x.x.52237 TO x.x.x.x.13721 <16> io_position_for_read: found wrong backup id - <backupid_2>: expected <backupid_1>. <2> check_error_history: called from bptm line 845, EXIT_Status = 94
Resolution: If the Media Contents report shows the backup image exists, then expire and re-import the media to rebuild the catalog information for the backup image. Then attempt to restore the backup. If the Media Contents report shows the backup no longer resides on the media, then the image may have been expired but was not removed from the image catalog.
