Factoring Trinomials: Trial and Error and The AC-Method

The document provides examples for factoring trinomials using various methods. It begins by introducing the process of factoring trinomials by multiplying the first and last terms. Subsequent sections provide examples of factoring "easy" trinomials through trial and error, and more difficult trinomials using the AC method. This involves finding two numbers whose product is the coefficient of the first term and last term, and whose sum is the middle term coefficient. The trinomial is then factored by grouping the terms. Ten examples demonstrate applying these factoring methods to fully factor trinomial expressions.

AC-Method to Factor ax2 + bx + c

1. Multiply the coefficients of the first and the last terms (ac)
2. Find two numbers whose product is ac and whose sum equals the b-number
3. Rewrite the middle term, bx, as the sum of two terms whose coefficients are
the integers found in step 2
