The document discusses the difference between the denotation and connotation of words. Denotation refers to the dictionary definition, while connotation refers to the feelings associated with a word. There are three types of connotations: positive, negative, and neutral. The document provides examples to illustrate how the same concept can be described with words that have different connotations (e.g. slender vs thin vs scrawny). It then prompts the reader to analyze the positive, negative, or neutral connotations of word pairs.
