Paracetamol (also known as acetaminophen) is a non-narcotic analgesic and antipyretic available under brand names like Tylenol and Tempra. It is dosed orally at 5ml every 4 hours as needed for fever reduction and temporary relief of mild to moderate pain. Paracetamol produces analgesia through unknown central nervous system mechanisms and reduces fever by acting on the hypothalamus heat-regulating center. It is contraindicated in those with hypersensitivity or when taken with alcohol due to risk of liver damage.
