Q1.Can I apply for university admissions if I have a compartment? Candidates having compartment in one subject only, can apply for admission in colleges under University of Delhi. Provisional admission may be granted by the university, subject to qualifying the examination subsequently. But compartment candidates cant apply for honors courses. Q2. I'm a student of humanities. My best of four is 90.75% including Maths. I want to apply for Economics (Hons). Considering my percentage, I wont get a good college for the same, but I may get Maths (Hons.) in the college of my choice. What do I choose? College or Course? You are advised to prefer course over college. The knowledge you acquire while studying a course stay with you forever. Every constituent college of Delhi University comprises of competent faculty members, appointed by the University. Also, your degree doesnt specify name of your college but mentions only the name of the University. Q3. Are we supposed to fill the application form for hostel, along with the college admission form? How much time does it take for a college to declare their hostel allotment list? Hostel accommodation forms are available in colleges that provide these facilities, allotment is on the basis of merit and the forms are released either when the cutoffs are declared or might be available in some colleges after admissions are over. The hostel list is notified before the academic session starts. Q4. Which course would be more helpful if I were to appear for the civil services later- B.Sc, B.A (Hons.) Political Science or B.A Programme? To start with, you need to select only one subject at the preliminary level and one additional subject, along with the previous one for mains. The subjects should be selected keeping in mind your inclination. The subject that you may take for the mains of the civil services exam is generally of the honors level. Q5. Im a regular student of engineering and I want to study Spanish. Does SOL provide any part time course in Spanish or any foreign language? SOL (School of Open Learning) doesnt offer any foreign language courses. However, there are add-on courses in various colleges/ Concerned Department, classes for which are held 2-3 times a week after regular college hours. The duration of certificate Course is 9-12 months. But preference is given to students of University of Delhi. Outsiders may be considered incase of availability of seats.
Q6. Im currently in class X and want to take up commerce stream. I wish to know more about Chartered Accountancy. As per the revised course of study, ICAI allows you to register directly after class X. You are generally given study material. Once you appear for class 12, you can take CPT. After clearing CPT and class 12, youve to study 9 months. You can then take IPCC. After that if youre eligible, you can take the finals. Visit, www.icai.org Q7. Im an outstation general category student. I have scored 83% in class12; I want to pursue B.A (Program) in University of Delhi with Sociology, Economics and Political Science as a combination. Could you elaborate on the procedure to apply online? You need not apply through physical form or online for DU admission. For the subject combinations offered in B.A Programme, you need to contact individual college, as it varies from college to college. Q8. Even though its believed that Vocational Subjects arent accepted in the best of four aggregate, the Information Bulletin lists such subjects. Is there any deduction in percentage? Yes, if you include vocational subjects in best of four, few colleges deduct some marks. However, you need to contact the college for further details or can see additional eligibility criterion on website http://du.ac.in. Q9. If I get my class 12 paper re-checked, how can I take admission ? Will it affect my chances? You have to take admission on the basis of current marks. Once your result of revaluation is out, you can inform the colleges about your revised score and attach a copy of your mark sheet as a proof. This may affect your admission only if theres a deduction. If you are sure of scoring improvrs and you want to change your college/course you can do so provided seats are available in that college/course within stipulated dates. Q10. Can a student migrate from one DU college to another on the basis of the 2nd yr result? Inter college migration is based purely on merit. For it you need an NOC from both the colleges (the one you are migrating from and the one you are migrating to). Also, it is possible only after your first year results are out. Migration is not possible after youve taken your second year exams.
Q11. If I take admission in a college in the first list and later become eligible for a better College/course in the second list, can I opt for the better course/college? You are advised to secure a seat in the first cut off list. If you get a course/college of your choice in the second cut off list, you can withdraw from the previous college and take admission the next college. The fee paid in the earlier college will be returned with a minimum deduction. Q12. Would it be prudent to prefer English over political science if I want to be a professor? To be a professor, you need to do an intensive study of your subject. You have to clear a NET Examination conduted by UGS/CSIR before you can apply for the post of a lecturer. Since it requires dedication, choose the subject that appeals more to you.
Q13. There is only one seat in the ECA category. If I apply under this category, but dont get a seat, would I still be considered in the general category? Theres a 5% seat provision for ECA as well as Sports (together). It depends on the college to further split the number of seats between ECA/Sports. If you dont get through either of these, you are still eligible for general category. Q14. Are Bachelor of Mass Media and Mass communication (BMMMC) and B.A (Hons) Journalism, same or different courses? And if they are different, can I apply for both as a Im from science stream? The two courses are different to the extent of their names. BMMMC covers all modes of mass communication and is a broad based course. On the other hand, B.A(Hons) Journalism does not focus as deeply into all the multiple forms of communication media, etc. BMMMC is available only in Indraprastha college for women. You can go ahead and apply for both. Q15. I have secured 59 percent mark in 12th board exam from UP Board. I want to take admission in DU. Can you please help me? How can I get admission in DU's best college? You need not fill any form. Just wait for the cut-off. If you fulfill the criteria you will be granted an admission .Also, you are advised to fill the forms of School of Open Learning. The number is 011-27666776. Forms will be out by 1st June. Q16. Do I have to buy only a single form for CATE entrance in several colleges?? We have only one form for applying in the colleges participating in CATE Exam.
Q18. I wish to pursue Statistics Honors from LSR College. I have got an aggregate of 98% in my best four including Maths, English, environmental education and computer. Can these four subjects be considered to calculate my percentage or is it necessary to include physics and chemistry in best four? The best four subjects to calculate your percentage should comprise of ONE LANGUAGE AND 3 ACADEMIC (ELECTIVE) SUBJECTS. The list of subjects categorized by the Delhi University as academic subjects is available in our information bulletin. You are advised to go through the additional eligibility criterion prescribed by the college for a course which you can find on DU website. Thus, incase the subjects mentioned by you, fulfill this criteria, you can very well include them to calculate your percentage. Q19. Can Sanskrit elective be considered as one of the best four subjects including English? Yes, very well it can be taken. The best 4 percentage is calculated by taking one language and 3 elective subjects. Q20. Students, whove studied PCM in class 12, will be given 5% additional weight age in admissions for B.Sc (Hons) Computer science. What does this actually mean? This means that the cut off for science students will be 5% less than for the candidates of other streams. You must include Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics in finding such cut-off. For example, if the cut off declared by a college is 91, then the same for the science students will be 5% less, that is 86%. Q22. Does DU offer any course in Bio-Technology (Hons)? Delhi University doesnt offer Bio Technology at the Bachelor level as 3 years degree programmes. But you can very pursue Biochemistry (hons) and then go for MSc in Plant Molecular Biology and Biotechnology from department of interdisciplinary, South Campus.
Q23.I have secured 77.8% in PCM with 93 marks in chemistry alone. I want to go for B.Sc (Hons) Chemistry. What should I do? Your marks indicate that you have passion for Chemistry. As course is important rather than college, you must try to take admission in the college near to your place of residence. You will be able to give more time to your studies. You can join teaching, research, scientist, hospital management etc Q24. How can I get admission in B.A (Hons) Journalism in DU? . B.A (Hons) Journalism is available in five colleges of Delhi University. Admission to his course is sought through common entrance test C-JET. The eligibility criteria is 70% in
XII and 60% in English for general candidates. Forms are available on-line at journalismdu.admissionhelp.com. The colleges offering this course are:Delhi College Of Arts And Commerce Kamala Nehru College Lady Shri Ram College Kalindi College And Maharaja Agrasen College. Q25. I want to pursue courses in Forensic Science. Please inform me about the colleges offering the same. Delhi University, doesnt offer full time degree course in the above mentioned course. However, after taking admission in a regular degree course, you can pursue a short term certificate course in Forensic Science. This short term course is available in SGTB Khalsa College and Rajdhani College. Q26. Ive scored 58.2% in boards. Can I pursue a course in foreign language from DU? If yes, which are the colleges where I should apply? Incase, you wish to apply for a degree then you should contact the Department of Germanic and Romance Studies. But if you wish to pursue a diploma then you can contact any college. Many of them offer short time diploma courses in foreign languages. Q27. Can I take part in DUs admission process if my mark sheet hasnt reached school even though the results are available online? The original documents are needed at the time of admission. If at that time your original mark sheet isnt available, you may submit an application, attested by your school principal. Rest is upto the discretion of the college. Q28 Im an outstation student and wish to apply to DU. Do I need a migration or transfer certificate? According to the clause mentioned in our information bulletin, both, the transfer certificate from school/college and migration certificate from Board/university are required if you have passed senior secondary from outside Delhi. Q29.I am currently pursuing Economics (Hons) and have given my 1st year exams. Can you please tell me the procedure for migrating to another college?
Migration is generally possible with the consent of the colleges. Permission from your current college and the college where you want to migrate is required. Moreover, it also depends on your percentage in the first year. Q30.I have filled up the form for CATE but there is no syllabus mentioned. In the exam, what will be the question based on? CATE will have multiple choice questions ton assess vocabulary, grammar, language skills and literary knowledge. Also therell be an essay type section testing your understanding of the literary texts and your proficiency in writing. Q31 What are the subjects in BA(Hons)Psychology besides psychology and English. Are there any other courses in which one can opt for psychology? Mainly the thrust area of your study would be psychology. But you may be study a qualifying, concurrent and inter disciplinary paper in your first year. If I get through the 1st list in a course in one college and in another course in other college, can I get admission in both to reserve my seat? Will photocopies of my certificates work in the college? If you get through more than one college in the 1st list then decide which one you want to join because you are not allowed to take admission in two colleges. During admission you will need originals. Q33. I have got 84 % in best 4 subjects in 10+2. I am interested in doing B.Com (H)/B.COM from D.U. In which good colleges I can get admission. You have very thin chances of getting admission in campus colleges (either north or South). But you can look forward to your admission in any out of campus college.
Q34. Can I migrate from SOL to a regular college? No, courses taught in SOL are annual based while in colleges are semester based. So, it will be difficult to migrate either way. Q35. My best four score is 96%. What are my chances of getting admission in SRCC? Otherwise which DU college would you suggest? You have a very bright chance of getting into the college of your choice. Rather than restricting to SRCC, you can look forward to many other DU colleges which are equally reputed.. Q36. Can I apply for Economics (Hons) even if I didnt have Maths in class 12?
It is necessary to have Maths in class 12, to pursue an Honors degree in Economics. Q37. What are the relaxations for OBC students? There will be a separate cut off list for the OBC category. The difference from general category, however, will not be more than 10%. Even if OBC seats remain vacant, therell be no relaxation in the minimum eligibility criteria of the courses. Q38. How do we avail ECA and Sports quota? To avail ECA/Sports quota, a candidate is required to fill individual forms of ECA and sports quota of every college separately. He/she is required to attach a self attested photocopy of all his certificates, along with the ECA/ Sports form. Thereafter, the trial dates are notified on the college notice boards. While for ECA, each college conducts individual trails, theres a centralized trial for Sports.
Q39. What is the Process of Cancellation of Admission? For cancellation of admission from a course you have to give an application in the college stating the reason why you want to cancel your admission. Q40. I have to appear for the counseling of I.P. University, will the college return the Original Certificates which I have deposited at the time of admission? Yes, you can always request for your certificates after producing your counseling letter and your certificates will be returned. Q41. I need hostel accommodation. How do I apply? Hostel accommodation is available in very few colleges of University of Delhi. You need to apply separately to the colleges. Q42. I had Business Mathematics in 10+2. Is it considered at par with Mathematics? Business Mathematics is recognized to be equivalent to Mathematics for B.A. (Hons) Economics and B.Com. (Hons) courses only and not for B.A(Hons) /B.Sc(Hons) Mathematics. Please refer to additional eligibility criteria. Q43. Can Vocational subjects be taken into account while computing best of four? Yes, (but certainly with some riders in some colleges). Please refer to the information bulletin for a list of vocational courses applicable for B.A. and B.A. (Vocational Studies) streams and individual college prospectus.
Q44. Can more than one Language be included in best of four? For computing the Best four Subjects (1 Language and 3 electives) combinations, the language can be any of the core languages including Sanskrit. If, besides the core language, a candidate as an elective has taken another language, it can be counted as one of the three best subjects. Q45. I had Bio-technology subject in 10+2. Can it be included in the best three in place of Mathematics? Bio-technology is NOT a substitute for Mathematics for B.Sc. Physical Sciences, Applied Physical Sciences, Honors courses in Physics, Electronics, Chemistry, and Instrumentation. For Life Science courses, Bio-technology is considered as an alternate to Biology. Bio-technology can also be included among the best three electives for Arts and Commerce courses. Q46. I have obtained compartment in one subject in 10+2 exam held in 2009. Can I take admission in DU. Yes, you can take provisional admission (provided your marks percentage is in cut-off list of any college), subject to passing the compartment examination within stipulated time. If you have been placed in compartment in more than one subject then you are not eligible for admission. Q47. I have a gap year. How does it affect my chances? The rules of the University of Delhi do NOT stipulate refusal to a candidate because of a gap year. Gap year students are considered at par with other current year students with regard to their cut-off percentages unless any particular college has stated any particular rule in their prospectus. Q48. I belong to Scheduled caste. How do I apply? Admissions to reserved categories and other quota based including physically challenged candidates are done through the University directly. The reserved category Common Preadmission form has the facility of recording the various preferences. You need not contact individual colleges. Please contact the designated Admission Information Centers / Dean Students Welfare, North Campus along with the relevant documents. Q49. How can I apply for an undergraduate course in Delhi University (DU)? Most of the undergraduate programs at University of Delhi are offered by the individual colleges. For those courses where the selection is based on the marks secured in the qualifying (10+2) examination, first cut-off will be declared on 15th June 2011. Courses for which the selection is based on an Entrance examination, you will need to contact the respective colleges for the application procedure and the entrance examination dates. Q50. How do I know about by chances of getting admission in a particular course? There are no absolute guidelines for this. However, you should look at last year's cut-off marks for the course you want to apply for in different colleges. While nothing can be said regarding this year's cut-off percentages, it is usually expected that there is not much change from last year. However, the exact cut-off percentages depend on the general trend of marks in the CBSE and other qualifying examinations. Q51. I am a foreign student. How do I apply to University of Delhi? Q54. What is the duration of Bachelor of Elementary Education. The Bachelor of Elementary Education (B.El.Ed) is a four integrated professional programme of elementary teacher education. Q55. What is the admission procedure for B.El.Ed. The admissions to the B.El.Ed. programme will be made through a common entrance examination (CCE-B.El.Ed) comprising of a written test.
Q56. Is B.El.Ed available only for girls? Yes, this course is available only in girls colleges. Q57. Can a Graduate do B.El.Ed ? No, a student who has done graduation can not apply for B.El.Ed as it is a course for students who have just done their class 12th
Q58. Does Delhi University provide scribes for students with disabilities? What extra provisions have been provided to such students? Yes, there is a provision of providing scribes for such students. Different facilities including cassette recorder, Braille library etc. are provided by the colleges. Q59. Can students with dyslexia be admitted to regular colleges of Delhi University or they just have the school of open learning as an option? No, admission to regular colleges is also available for such students however they can apply through the PH quota and they will have to produce adequate certificates for they disability (min. 40%) and then they will have to meet the medical board doctors. Q60. Can two languages be included in the best of four? Yes, two languages can be included in the best of four only if one language out of the two is a core subject and other has to be an elective. Two core languages cannot be included. Eg: English could be core and Hindi needs to be elective then only itll be eligible. Q61. Can you list the colleges that include physical education and Informatics practices in the best of four subjects? Including Physical education and Informatics practices in the best of four subject is the discretion of the college, but usually no college includes this subject in the best of four. Q62. Can we get a consolidated list of Add-on courses that are available in Delhi University? The add-on courses are provided by campus of open learning and many of the colleges. These courses include English communication, multimedia, Web designing, Journalism, Tourism etc. For admission in these courses kindly contact Campus of open learning individual colleges. Q63. Should visually impaired students be granted admission in science stream? Visually impaired students should opt for relatively lighter courses as compared to science courses because this stream includes practical papers also. Therefore coping up with the science stream can be a little difficult for such students. Q64. Is computer science included in best of four? Computer science is listed as an elective subject. Q65. What is the difference between B.El.Ed and B.Ed?
After pursuing B.El.Ed (it can be pursued after 12th class) done can join school as a assistant teacher. B.Ed can be done only after graduation.
Q66. Most students join a particular course because of peer pressure what should be done for such candidates? Here lies the responsibility of the schools that they should counsel their students at school level in such a way that they become more focused and choose a correct path for themselves and if not make a proper choice but they should at least be directed in a correct direction so that they dont make a wrong choice for themselves. For availing sports quota a candidate needs to apply separately in different colleges, Admission is based on the level at which you have played and the performance in the trial? Does sports quota keep on changing from college to college? Yes, the sports quota keeps on changing according to the colleges discretion, they distribute 5% in all. Q68. Why cant students opting for commerce without Maths going for B.Com (H) and Eco (H)? For students taking B.com(H) And Eco(H) as their consideration for a preferred career, they need to have Maths in their best of four percentage because the component of maths is very high in both the subjects. Q69. I have my SC/ST certificate in my fathers name, will it be accepted at the time of admission? No, you need to have the caste certificate in your own name not your fathers name. However, if you dont have it in your name you can apply for it . Q70. Is it mandatory for the candidate seeking admission to be physically present at the time of form submission? I am a PH candidate and I obtained my medical certificate when I was in class 5th, will that certificate be valid now? No, the medical certificate should not be preferable more than 5 years old.
