Ce 767 Homework 4

This homework assignment involves: 1) Designing the cross-section of a 12 meter wide bridge over a pier and in end zones using AASHTO-LRFD suggestions. 2) Performing a construction structural analysis that models segment construction, tendon stressing, and time-dependent effects to determine tip displacement during construction staging without abutment connection. Stresses from prestressing, relaxation, and losses must be determined.

CE767 Homework #4 Due Date: April 5, 2012 Q1. For the given elevation of bridge, perform a preliminary design.

Determine the cross-section over the pier and end zone. Use AASHTO-LRFD suggestions for the 12 meter wide bridge (two lanes).

Q2. Perform a construction structural analysis that includes a preliminary construction staging to determine the tip displacement close to the abutments (at the open stage or no connection to the abutment phase). (Model the segment constructions, tendon stressing and time-dependent effects) Determine the stresses - Cumulative - Extract prestressing - Extract relaxation - Extract all losses Use the following load combination: DC + DIFF + CLL + CR + SH + (CE+IE) DC DIFF CLE : selfweight of segments : 2% increase in DC applied only to one cantilever : construction live load on deck surface :0.5 kN/m2 on one cantilever and 0.25 kN/m2 on the other one CR & SH: Use default for CEB-FIP 90 models CE : construction equipment (80 tons- traveler forms) IE : impact force on construction equipment is 10% weight of the traveler form.
