How to use IBM Travelstar 8E External Hard Drive(PCMCIA) under Windows XP

When use the IBM Travelstar 8E in a Windows XP system, due to an autorun program preloaded in the HDD, double-clicking Device Icon of the External HDD will run a 'software setup menu': [ ] NovaDisk SE Backup (for Win 95/98/NT) [ ] KharmaPi [ ] RioPort Audio Manager (for Win 95/98) [ ] Buy Travelstar Accessories [ ] Do not show this menu in the future [ ] Quit and return to desktop Selecting Quit and return to desktop, you will exit the software setup menu. However, once selected 'Do not show this menu in the future' from the menu, then later double-click the device icon will get no response on it. Solution: --Right-click on the external HDD device icon & choose 'OPEN' or EXPLORE', find file Autorun.ini and rename it as Autorun.bak. --Disconnect and re-connect the IBM External HDD to make the change to be effect. --After doing so, the HDD should be able to be directly accessed by double clicking on its icon. ==========================================================
Note that you are still being able to open the software setup menu by running the GUI1.exe which was preloaded in the IBM HDD. Always remember that select Do not show this menu in the future will again cause the HDD failing to be accessed by directly clicking on its icon. Please avoid to do so. Run 'Travelstare.exe' from the 'c:\travelstare' will also resume the function of Software setup menu

========================================================== Finally, if you do feel those preloaded utilities are no use for you while you using the IBM HDD under Windows XP system, you may just delete them ( and those related folders ) on both your C: drive and the IBM Drive. Installation:

Win XP auto detect/install as: Disk Drive --> IBM-DYLA-28100 IDE ATA/ATAPI Controllers --> PCMCIA IDE/ATAPI Controller
