Control System Laboratory: Instruction Mannual

This document provides instructions for an experiment on modeling and analyzing the step response of a practical position control system using MATLAB. Students are asked to: 1) Model the given transfer function in Simulink; 2) Obtain the closed-loop step responses for different values of K and determine time domain specifications; 3) Record the results in a table and draw graphs for comparison. The objective is to study the behavior of the practical position control system and understand the effect of varying the gain K.

Student should obtain this transfer function from fig.1 and find out the value of different time domain specification as stated in the objective. Circuit Diagram: No circuit diagram required. Apparatus used: Personal Computer & MATLAB. Procedure: 1. Draw the above circuit in SIMULINK or you can program in a .MAT file. 2. Now find the responses of the system for different values of K and find out the value of different time domain specification and fill up the table 1. 3. Draw the graph. Report: Compare experimental result with theoretical result. Table1 Time domain Specification Rise time(tr) Peak time(tp) Settling time(ts) Peak overshoot(Mp) Steady state error(ess) Damped Natural Frequency(wd) Damping factor() Natural Frequency(wn) K=10 K=2 K=1 K=0.5
