Underground buildings must have a standpipe system installed throughout in accordance with code requirements. Corridors in Group I-2 medical facilities must be continuous to exits and separated from other areas, except for unlimited waiting areas and similar spaces that are not occupied for patient sleeping or treatment. These open spaces must have automatic fire detection and the corridors they open to within the same smoke compartment must also have automatic detection. The spaces must also have quick-response sprinklers and not obstruct exits. Clerical areas for doctors and nurses may open to corridors if constructed as required.

You must have a standpipe system equipped throughout the underground building system in accordance with the code.

GROUP I-2 MEDICAL FACILITIES


Corridors in occupancies in Group I-2 must be continuous to the exits and separated from other areas in accordance with corridor walls except spaces conforming to the following paragraphs. Spaces of unlimited areas such as waiting areas and similar spaces constructed for corridors must be permitted to be open to a corridor, but only when the following requirements are met:

The spaces are not occupied for patient sleeping units, treatment rooms, hazardous, or incidental use in mixed uses and occupancy. The open space is protected by an automatic fire detection system installed in accordance with the code. The corridors onto which the spaces open, in the same smoke compartment, need to be protected by an automatic fire detection system installed. Smoke compartment located in the spaces are to be equipped throughout with quick-response sprinklers. The space is arranged so that it does not obstruct the exit.
