Very Low Frequency (VLF) : Michelle M. Gomez and April Rose G. Bogñalos

Very Low Frequency (VLF) electromagnetic waves have wavelengths between 10-100km and can diffract around obstacles and propagate along the ground, making them well-suited for long-range submarine communications. VLF signals can penetrate seawater to depths of 10-40m. The VLF band is allocated for military communication below 9kHz and navy communication between 11-30kHz. VLF transmitters are located worldwide to achieve global radio propagation. VLF signals operating at 3-30kHz can also be used in metal detectors by inducing eddy currents in nearby metals with an alternating magnetic field from transmitter coils.

VLF as Metal Detector

Induction balance(3kHz-30KHz) Transmitter coil - outer coil loop of wire. Receiver coil - inner coil loop of wire.
The polarity of the magnetic field is perpendicular to the coil of wire. Each time the current changes direction, the polarity of the magnetic field changes.
