Rotation Using Matrices

This document discusses rotation using matrices. It explains that a rotation turns a figure about a fixed center point, and matrices can be used to represent rotations of 90, 180, 270, and 360 degrees. It provides examples of rotating triangles 90, 180, and 270 degrees using rotation matrices. The document concludes by asking if the reader has any questions.

Rotation using matrices

 Rotation using matrices applies multiplying

matrices
 A rotation is a transformation that turns a figure
about a fixed point called a center of rotation.
You can rotate a figure as much as 360 degrees.
In this text, all rotations are counterclockwise
about the origin.
Matrices for rotation in coordinates

 Rotation of 180°
Example 1
 Example of a quarter-turn or a 90 degree rotation for
a triangle with vertices A (1, 2), B(3,4), C(5,1).
Center of enlargement is at the origin.

Example 3
 Given triangle ABC where A (–4, 1), B (– 2, 5)
and C (0, 2),. Rotate the triangle 270°.   Then,
