This document shows a chart comparing the average interest rate and median home prices in the Northeast region of the US from 1963 to 2020. As interest rates decreased from the early 1980s onwards, median home prices in the Northeast generally increased. The lowest interest rates below 5% in the late 1990s and 2000s correspond with peak home prices above $300,000. Since the 2008 recession, interest rates have remained low below 5% while median home prices have rebounded but not reached the same highs.
