As interest rates decreased from the early 1980s onwards, median home prices in the Northeast generally increased. The lowest interest rates below 5% in the late 1990s and 2000s correspond with peak home prices above $300,000. Since the 2008 recession, interest rates have remained low below 5% while median home prices have rebounded but not reached the same highs.
