NFPA 70E Compliance Guide

This guide provides requirements for personal protective equipment (PPE) when performing various tasks on energized electrical equipment operating at different voltage classes. The PPE requirements are based on hazard risk categories (HRC) that correspond to the potential arc flash hazard for a given task. Higher HRC levels require more protective clothing, including flame-resistant clothing and flash suits, with minimum required arc ratings ranging from 4 to 40 cal/cm2 depending on the task and equipment. Notes provide additional guidance on allowable reductions in HRC levels and fault clearing times for equipment.

NFPA 70E COMPLIANCE GUIDE

This guide shall only be used in conjunction with performing the necessary calculations contained in a flash hazard analysis to determine the proper cal/cm 2 . If the results of the calculations exceed the cal/cm 2 that correspond to the HRC found on this guide, you must use clothing that complies with the calculation.
