English Language Trivia The longest one-syllable word in the English language is screeched.

" No word in the English language rhymes with month, orange, silver, or purple. There are only four words in the English language which end in "dous": tremendous, horrendous, stupendous, and hazardous.

"Dreamt" is the only English word that ends in the letters "mt".

The longest word in the English language is 1909 letters long and it refers to a distinct part of DNA. The verb "cleave" is the only English word with two synonyms which are antonyms of each other: adhere and separate. The only 15 letter word that can be spelled without repeating a letter is uncopyrightable.

The sentence "the quick brown fox jumps over the lazy dog" uses every letter in the English language. The names of all the continents end with the same letter that they start with. The word racecar and kayak are the same whether they are read left to right or right to left.

The only city whose name can be spelled completely with vowels is Aiea, Hawaii. "Polish" is the only word in the English language that when capitalized is changed from a noun or a verb to a nationality. The English word with the most consonants in a row is latchstring. The only word that consists of two letters, each used three times is the word "deeded." "Rhythm" is one of the longest English words without vowels. 'Strengths' is the longest word in the English language with just one vowel.

"Bookkeeper" and "bookkeeping" are the only words in the English language with three consecutive double letters. "Underground" is the only word in the English language that begins and ends with the letters "und." The word "Boondocks" comes from the Tagalog (Filipino) word "Bundok," which means mountain.
