Course Objective of EGeology

Engineering Geology is a crucial course for civil engineers that teaches them how to assess construction sites for suitability by applying geological knowledge. It helps engineers identify any geological drawbacks of a site and determine appropriate preventative measures. The course exposes students to fundamentals of geology branches and how geological studies can help future constructions by discovering drawbacks and advantages of a site's geology.

Course objective Engineering Geology (III year I semester) Civil Engineers deserve all praise in the progress of any

nation, as a plan , design, estimate the cost of, and execute important projects such as dams, reservoirs, tunnels and bridges which are indispensable for achieving prosperity and self-reliance. But the past has revealed that technical perfection alone cannot ensure the economy, success or safety of civil engineering constructions. To achieve this objectives engineers have to assess the suitability of site. This crucial role is fulfilled by the techniques of Engineering Geology which refer to the application of Geological knowledge to civil engineering constructions, at different stages. This kind of study exposes the geological drawbacks, if any, of a site and also reveals the magnitude. Such details help the engineers not only to take the suitable precautionary measures to overcome the drawbacks but also to take advantage of of the site geology findings wherever possible. Though competent geologists render the necessary services in this context, a civil engineer is also expected to appreciate the relevance of geological studies. Such interaction should during the engineering course itself . In a brief period, a student is exposed, to the fundamental s of different branches of geology and also made aware of the logical application of this knowledge in future constructions,to his or her advantage.
