LAB 5-2ansys Introduction - 2013

The document introduces the finite element analysis method. It discusses how FEA simulates physical systems mathematically by dividing them into discrete finite elements. The document outlines the main steps in FEA, including discretization, selection of displacement models, derivation of element stiffness matrices, and solving for unknown displacements. Finally, common applications of FEA in structural and non-structural problems are presented.

The finite element method (FEM) (its practical application often known as finite element analysis (FEA))

FEM is a method for dividing up a very complicated problem into small elements that can be solved in relation to each other.

Introduction to Finite Element Analysis

FEM simulates physical system and their loading condition mathematically.

Analysis seeks to approximate the behavior of an arbitrary shaped structure under loading and constrain conditions . Field is divided into discrete no of small regions called as finite elements . ADVANTAGES Of FEM Any complex structure can be analyzed Different boundary conditions can be incorporated suitably Composite bodies also analyses very easily

STEPS IN FEM
Discretization of field

Selection of displacement model Derivation of element stiffness matrix Assembly of stiffness matrix & application of boundary Solutions of unknown displacements Calculating the element stress & strains from nodal displacements
