Every Child a Reader 2011-2012 All Elementary Pupils

Rationale/Background Every Child a Reader program was initiated by the Department of Education in support of the Ten-Point Basic Education Agenda of the Aquino Administration that would: a. promote reading and literacy among the pupils and students; b. motivate our youth to learn from the lives and works of eminent Filipinos; c. uphold ones heritage and values; and d. make reading a shared physical experience, specifically among the youth, thereby increasing its relevance amidst the growing reliance on the internet and inclination to on-line activities. Curriculum Materials Reading Recovery (RR), Philippine Informal Reading Inventory (Phil-IRI), and Philippine Word List in English (PWLE) to ensure a comprehensive approach to child learning.

Instructional Support/Professional Development School officials are urged to conduct reading and literacy activities. Schools are recommended to partner with non-governmental organizations (NGOs) and the private sector to foster cooperation within the community and optimize the success of these activities. It provides a year-long apprenticeship training to teachers to make them independent problem solvers of literacy problems in their schools.

It provides an assessment tool that will help schools determine the childrens reading level as well as the reading profile of the division, regional and national levels.

Program Description The Every Child a Reader Program (ECaRP) is a national program that addresses the thrust of the Department of Education (DepEd) to make every child a reader at his/her grade level. It is designed to equip elementary pupils with strategic reading and writing skills to make them independent young readers and writers.
