POWER SEMI-CONDUCTOR DEVICES 05 Basic concepts of construction, ratings of SCR, Diac, Triac, Static V-I characteristics, gate characteristics, ratings, protection of SCR, turn on and turn off methods, series and parallel operation of SCRs, switching devices like power transistors, BJT, MOSFET, GTO, IGBT etc.

05 TRIGGERING TECHNIQUES Turn on and off circuits for SCR, triggering with single pulse and train of pulses, synchronizing with supply, triggering with microprocessor, forced commutation, different techniques, series and parallel operations of SCRs. 10 PHASE CONTROLLED RECTIFIERS Principle of phase control, half wave controlled rectifiers, half wave controlled rectifiers with R, R-L, R-L-E load, single phase full wave controlled converters, 2pulse mid-point converters, 2-pulse half and fully controlled bridge converters with R, R-L, R-L-E load, Three phase converter system with diodes, 3 phase half and fully controlled bridge converters, triggering scheme, Effect of source impedance on the performance or the converters, Dual converters 10 INVERTERS: Voltage & current source inverters, single phase half bridge and full bridge inverter with resistive load and inductive load, concept of feed back diode, three phase bridge inverters, Steady state analysis, Voltage control in single phase inverters, 3-phase bridge inverters, Pulse width modulated inverters, Reduction of harmonics in Inverter.
