7 April 15, 2013 Core Text Assignment Describe the steps involved in the Think like an entrepreneur activity: 1. Ask the students to count off by 8 so that they can work in groups of three. Tell students to remember their original group number. 2. Each child should have the entrepreneur question worksheet Appendix A and pencil to take with them to their group. 3. Point out that there are eight objects around the classroom. They are numbered 1 to 8. 4. Tell groups if they are number 1 to go to the object labeled #1, and so on. 5. Tell students that each group will have 10 minutes to come up with at least 3 new ideas for their object and each of them have to write them down on their paper. They should try to answer all of the questions on the Appendix A worksheet. 6. Tell children out of the three ideas they chose they must choose one that there is favorite to share later. Ask if there are any questions.
Tell group 1 to go find a partner in group 2, once they have found a partner, have the partners find another group member in group 3, and finally one last member in group 4. Have group 5 go to group 6 and have a partner, and to 7 then 8. The children should have all different group members in their new groups now so they can share their idea they came up with for their object. Let the children explain their product they came up with to their new groups. Let them know they only have 8 minutes for everyone to share their ideas. Once they have shared their ideas give the students a few minutes to talk about what are some characteristics they think an entrepreneur must possess. Once they have come up with a couple ideas have them share their ideas to the class. Write on the smart board all of these characteristics they have come up. Here are a few ideas they might come up with or a few ones to bring up Characteristics of Entrepreneurs Imagination Courage Open- minded Determined Resourceful Risk taker Creative Positive attitude Leader Flexible Good at making decisions

Pass out reading material to the groups and pass out rubric for presentation Appendix C children will be presenting. Go over rubric with children to make sure they do not have any questions. Explain clearly what is expected of timeline part. After looking over the reading material given to you over your entrepreneur and reviewing the video shown yesterday, you will need to create a timeline that will be a part of your presentation of the events that have happened in your entrepreneurs life. You may use either (write on board) 1. www.softschools.com/teacher_resources/timeline_maker 2. www.preceden.com/
These websites are also on the rubric but they will be also referenced on board. Make sure to pay attention to answer all of the questions that are on the rubric in your presentation. You will be using the presentation software called Prezi to present. (They have already used this website before.)Everyone must participate in the making of the presentation and the oral part of the presentation. There will be peer evaluations Appendix D I will hand out tomorrow you will give over your team mates. Lets first began looking at timeline websites to make sure everyone understands how to use them.
Have children get into groups and make them take laptop with them to their group tables. Once they are in groups have them go to the first timeline option website. Show them just a quick preview of how to use Soft Schools Timeline Maker. Make sure to ask if they have any questions. If not go on to next website Preceden and let them see how this timeline works. Researching/Creating Presentations
At this time let the children start their presentations and research over their entrepreneurs. I want them to have a large amount of time to work on reading about their entrepreneur and collaborating with team mates their ideas on presentation. Walk around and check in with each groups making sure they understand what they are doing and if they have any questions. Make sure to remind them of the requirements: Presentation includes: -Who entrepreneur is? -How they became an entrepreneur? -Why they became an entrepreneur? -What they created? -When they created it? -How they influenced Indiana? -Includes a timeline of important life events for entrepreneur. -REMIND THEM TO CITE INFORAMTION ON PRESENTATION! The children might ask a few questions like if they have to use information from all the informational text given to them. Let them know all those informational text are guidelines; they choose from any of those the material they would like to reference from. They may ask if they can have note cards to write information when speaking, one notecard is fine, but remind them not to read right off of it, eye contact is graded upon.
