A bungee jumper weighing 70 kg ties one end of an elastic rope of length 60 m and stiffness 1750 N/m. to bridge and the other end to himself and jumps from the bridge (Figure 1). Assuming the bridge to be rigid, determine the vibratory motion of the jumper about his static equilibrium position.
Fig 1 2. A helical spring, when fixed at one end and loaded at the other, requires a force of 100N to produce an elongation of 10mm.The ends of the spring are now rigidly fixed, one end vertically above the other, and a mass of 10 kg is attached at the middle point of its length. Determine the time taken to complete one vibration cycle when the mass is set vibrating in the vertical direction. 3. A locomotive car of mass 2000kg travelling at a velocity v=10m/s is stopped the end of tracks by the spring damper system as shown in Fig.2 .If the stiffness of the spring is k=40N/mm and the damping constant is c= 20Ns/mm, determine the maximum displacement of the car after engaging the spring-damper and the time taken to reach the maximum displacement.

4. The mass of a machine is 100 kg. Its vibrations are damped by a viscous dash pot which diminishes amplitude of vibrations from 40 mm to 10 mm in three complete oscillations. If the machine is mounted on four springs each of stiffness 25 kN/m, find (a) the resistance of the dash pot at unit velocity, and (b) the periodic time of the damped vibration.
5. A machine supported symmetrically on four springs has a mass of 100 kg. The mass of the reciprocating parts is 2 kg which move through a vertical stroke of 80 mm with simple harmonic motion. Neglecting damping, determine the combined stiffness of the spring so that the force transmitted to foundation is 1/25 th of the impresses force. The machine crank shaft rotates at 1000 rpm. If under working conditions, the damping reduces the amplitudes of successive vibrations by 25%, find (i) the force transmitted to the foundation at resonance and (ii) the amplitude of vibration at resonance.
