AEgis is Developing Instrumentation for High Energy Laser (HEL) and High Power Microwave (HPM) Field Testing
Huntsville, Alabama, January 13, 2009 The AEgis Technologies Group is continuing to play a key role in the development of test instrumentation for directed energy systems. AEgis is leading multidisciplinary teams that are providing on-board diagnostic sensors for high-energy laser (HEL) systems. Now, team members are developing a capability to identify and field promising instrumentation to measure HEL and high power microwave (HPM) energy. AEgis will coordinate with the Air Armament Center (AAC) at Eglin Air Force Base, Florida, to create a suite of low-cost instrumentation that provides accurate, high-speed measurements of HEL and HPM energies. AEgis has supported a series of operational field assessments of the Active Denial System technology over the past 6 years. These assessments were performed with the assistance of military personnel and scientists from many specialties and in a variety of places nationwide. These efforts, coupled with the HEL sensor development, provide a solid foundation for continued AEgis involvement with research and development of advanced technology that supports directed energy sensors and test range infrastructure. "We are identifying the key technologies for measuring directed energy parameters of interest and recommending suitable equipment that can immediately provide essential information for these game-changing directed energy weapon systems, says Mr. Kent Taylor, Program Manager for Directed Energy projects in the Microsystems Group at AEgis. AEgis is committed to developing novel sensors and actuators using micro and nanotechnology. AEgis multidisciplinary team has expertise in critical areas of test instrumentation and deployment.
