This document describes 7 different route types in an Autonomous System (AS) network. Type 1 routes are intra-area routes within a single area. Type 2 routes are inter-area routes between areas advertised by the designated router (DR). Type 3 routes are summary routes between areas advertised by area border routers (ABRs). Type 4 routes are summary routes from ABRs to autonomous system boundary routers (ASBRs). Type 5 routes are external routes learned by ASBRs from other ASes. Type 7 routes are not-so-stubby area (NSSA) routes.
