ARTHROCENTESIS

Arthrocentesis is a procedure to drain fluid from a joint using a needle. It aims to obtain synovial fluid samples, relieve pain from excess fluid, and drain fluid in cases of joint infection or effusion. Potential complications include infection, trauma, joint instability, and cartilage damage. Nurses are responsible for preparing the patient, monitoring them during the procedure, and providing aftercare instructions regarding rest, dressing, and avoiding joint movement.
