AIMSweb allows staff members to monitor the progress of students who are receiving additional instructional support. There are two situations in which students will need to be progress monitored. Some students are receiving additional support within the core from their classroom teacher and need to be progress monitored by their classroom teacher. Other staff members inside or outside of the classroom may also be providing extra support. These staff members (e.g., literacy support, Title 1) will be progress monitoring the students they see.
It is important that classroom teachers and interventionists are not both progress monitoring as it is unnecessary and there can be overlap of passages, which lessens the validity of the results. Intervention Level / When you should progress monitor:
Students above the 25th percentile who are of concern need to be progress monitored by the classroom teacher through the use of a rubric, anecdotal, assessments, etc. These students would not be progress monitored using AIMSweb. Students between the 11th and 25th percentile should be progressed monitored every 2 weeks by whomever is providing additional instruction. This should be done through AIMSweb. Students below the 11th percentile should be progressed monitored every week by whomever is providing additional instruction. This should be done through AIMSweb.
4) Once on the next page, find the green box on the left. This is where you will search for students by typing in their first or last name.
5) Type in the students first or last name, and then hit the Search button.
6) Once you hit the search button, the red box on the right side will find all students with that name. Check the box to the left of the student you wish to progress monitor, and hit the Add PM button.
7) Once you have successfully selected a student, the following box will appear. Hit OK and proceed to the Scheduling Wizard.
8) From this screen, you can choose all of the PM probes you would like to use for the student (you may select as many as necessary). Scroll down to find:
Reading - Reading - Curriculum Based Measurement (R-CBM). Check each PM probe you will be monitoring.
9) Scroll down to the bottom and click Next.
10) The next screen will allow you to set the start and ending dates for progress monitoring, and a schedule for how often and when you should administer each probe. Click on the calendar boxes next to the Goal Start/End Date to select the dates that will begin and end your progress monitoring. In the Assessment Schedule and Frequency section, click weekly and depending on the intervention level (on pg. 1 of this handout), enter 1 or 2 weeks in the blank. Then, choose what day you will progress monitor (Monday is the default day). After this, click Save.

11) Our student is scheduled, and now we are back at the main progress monitoring page. Our next step is to add data. The first step is to enter their initial scores, or baseline, on the probes so we have a starting point on where the student is at. To add our baseline data, click the blue text under Progress Report.
11
12) Determine if the student is below the 10th percentile of his/her grade level. If the student is not, you will progress monitor and write their goal at grade level. If the student is at or below the 10th percentile, you will have to find the students Survey Level. Survey level is another way of saying their instructional level.
For more information on finding a students survey level, please see your Professional Development Coach or Psychologist.
13) Next, we need to set a goal for the student. To do this, we reference the AIMSweb Norm Chart. On the far right, there is a column labeled ROI. This stands for Rate of Improvement. We use this to determine how many words a student should learn over the course of the intervention. An example student is reading at 4th grade, with their baseline score being 108 words per minute with 5 errors. So:
Complete this side only if the student is being progress monitored off grade level. Remember, that is for students reading below at or below the 10th percentile for their grade level. You will need to enter data for both sides of this screen. Hit Save and Graph when complete.
15) You are now ready to progress monitor. Once you start collecting data, you will need to enter it into AIMSweb every week through the PM tab. To do so, go to your progress monitoring tab and click on the date under Next Score.
16) Enter your data and probe number into the appropriate date. If you have a schedule established, the scheduled day would be green. If the student is absent, click on the box next to missed. When you are done, click the save button.
Thats it! Your student is now set up for progress monitoring and you are collecting data. Here are a few more features you can use:
This drop down menu will allow you to see multiple weeks at one time.
This icon allows you to add labels to your chart. Maybe the student changed interventions, or maybe they are having an off day. Using these labels can give background knowledge to users and explain dips or spikes in data. To get your PM graph, click on the far right column, under Progress Report. From here, you will get a graph that looks like the one below.
