Eee 527-Adc Project 4

1) The document provides guidance for designing a pipeline analog-to-digital converter (ADC) project in Cadence, including recommended component libraries and design considerations. 2) It recommends using ideal opamps from the listed libraries for the multiplying digital-to-analog converters (MDACs), and generating non-overlapping clock signals. Small capacitors may be needed to avoid simulation convergence errors with switches. 3) The comparator output should be converted from thermometer to binary codes, and specifications like gain and bandwidth should be defined to match real components.

EEE 527 ADC Project 4 Design of Pipeline ADC : The following are the few hints which will

help you in making the design of pipeline ADC easy. Libraries : These are the libraries which you can use for the ideal components .You can use the ideal components like Opamp, Cap, Switch from these libraries . AHDL Lib: /usr/local/cadence/IC5141_USR5/tools.lnx86/dfII/samples/artist/ahdlLib Analog Lib: /usr/local/ADS/ADS/ADS2009U1/cdslibs/5.1.0/analogLib BMS Lib: /usr/local/cadence/IC5141_USR5/tools.lnx86/dfII/samples/artist/bmslib You can use all the ideal components from these libraries .Please add the above paths to your library file in cadence . Design: Opamp : You can use an ideal Opamp for the MDAC .You can use either 1.5 bits or 2.5 bits MDAC .The opamp are available in the above libraries . Clock : Please use non-overlapping clocks .You can use two clock sources for the non-overlapping clocks .If possible generate an non-overlapping clock using the circuit given in the lecture notes . Switch: Use the switch from the analog lib .You might face convergence errors when simulating ,so please attach a very small cap at the ends of the switch . Comparator : You can convert the differential voltage and then compare it with the trip point voltages . You need to convert the thermometer code from the comparator to reflect the 1.5 bit RSD output .

Digital Logic : Please feel free to use the digital blocks from the above libraries .

Specifications : Please define the Gain, Bandwidth inside the opamp you are using for simulations. Try using specs which are close to real life values and dont take very high margins which make the specs totally unreal. The entire circuitry is differential . Please tabulate the specifications you used during your simulations . You can use flash ADC for the last few bits if needed. Exporting : You can export the waveform using the Filewriter which will be uploaded to the blackboard .You can use this waveform for taking the FFT . The output of the ADC can be fed to a D/A and this output can be exported for further analysis . The lab ends on April 30th .So you need to be done with your project by that time .
